Job description

Join Thompson Thrift as a Ranch Laborer supporting the care, maintenance, and day-to-day operations of a private 1,000-acre+ ranch in Paris, IL.

This hands-on role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, operating tools and equipment, maintaining land and property, and tackling a wide variety of projects. No two days may look exactly the same, from landscaping and property cleanup to moving materials, maintaining grounds, and assisting with general repairs and improvement projects across the ranch.

Your Role as a Ranch Laborer

As a Ranch Laborer, you'll help maintain and improve a private 1,000-acre+ property while supporting a broad range of daily ranch and property needs. Working as part of a hands-on team, you'll assist with grounds maintenance, landscaping, property cleanup, material handling, basic construction and repair projects, and general upkeep throughout the ranch.

This role is well suited for someone who takes pride in maintaining land and property, is comfortable working with their hands, and is willing to jump in wherever needed to keep the ranch safe, organized, and well maintained.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the general upkeep, maintenance, and improvement of the ranch property and grounds
  • Assist with landscaping, tree and debris removal, and general land maintenance
  • Load, unload, lift, and move materials, supplies, tools, and equipment throughout the property
  • Clean and prepare work areas for maintenance, repair, and improvement projects
  • Assist with digging, filling, and other general grounds and property work
  • Perform basic construction and repair tasks as assigned
  • Set up and take down ladders and scaffolding when needed for property projects
  • Operate a variety of tools and equipment, which may include power drills, pneumatic drills, grinders, saws, pressure washers, spray equipment, levels, lifts, and forklifts
  • Assist with equipment and machine-related tasks as needed
  • Help maintain clean, organized, and functional work areas throughout the ranch
  • Take ownership of assigned projects and provide hands-on assistance wherever needed to support day-to-day ranch operations
Our Ideal Candidate for this Role

Education

  • High school diploma, GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience

  • 2 years of experience in a similar ranch, property maintenance, landscaping, construction, general labor, or hands-on maintenance role

Skills & Attributes

  • Experience performing hands-on outdoor, property maintenance, landscaping, or general labor work
  • Familiarity with common tools, equipment, materials, and basic construction or maintenance techniques
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team across a large private property
  • Practical problem-solving skills and a willingness to take on a variety of projects
  • Dependable, adaptable, and able to follow direction while taking ownership of assigned responsibilities
  • Strong attention to property care, cleanliness, organization, and quality
  • Willingness to learn new skills and assist wherever needed to support ranch operations
