Job description

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) founded in 1803, is Ohio's 3rd largest sheriff's office. HCSO has approximately 900 employees dedicated to ensuring the safety of nearly one million residents who call Hamilton County Home.

In a secure environment, our Data Entry Operators (Intake) interview incoming prisoners to collect and verify their personal information. They use our Jail Management System and Court Management System to enter arrest information into the criminal databases (CLEAR/RCIC and CMS). They verify that prisoners are admitted and released from the facility, validate and enter indicated cases, merge criminal records, examine and cancel expunged records, acquire fugitive detainers, and notarize criminal documents.

Data Entry Operators (Intake) serve as a liaison with other agencies to clarify/confirm data;

They also perform various clerical tasks (i.e., preparing forms, generating reports, answering telephones, and assisting the public) using different types of office equipment such as computers, copier/scanner, fax, etc.

This position works in a jail environment and will be exposed to potentially high-risk individuals (i.e., felons, indigents, etc.).

Qualified candidates must have:

  • a high school diploma or GED
  • previous data entry experience or similar administrative roles; preferred but not required.
  • ability to read, write, and type a minimum of 25 words per minute.
  • proficiency with using computer systems calculators and MS Office suite.
  • willingness and aptitude to learn and adapt to new technologies and systems.
  • the ability to work 2nd shift. (Training will be on 3rd Shift)
  • the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and other law enforcement personnel;
  • the ability to communicate effectively by phone and interact with the general public;
  • the ability to proofread technical material; collect, verify, and enter data from multiple sources;
  • the ability to analyze records; ensure thorough and accurate data are maintained; recognize problems and correct errors; maintain efficient workflow patterns;
  • the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
