Job description

About the Island Commons:

The Island Commons is a seven-bed Level IV Residential Care Facility. The Commons is a nonprofit organization that is heavily supported, both financially and emotionally, by the community it serves. Now in its 26th year of operation, the Commons has provided care to more than 150 individuals. Many of those served are from families who have lived full-time or summered on Chebeague for generations.

The mission of the Commons is to enhance life options for elders by offering care and assistance with daily living, be it as a resident of the Island Commons facility or through our in-home care assistance program, Chebeague Cares. The Commons also offers adult day and respite care services.

About Chebeague Island:

Chebeague is a non-bridged island in Casco Bay, home to approximately 400 year-round residents, with the population increasing to approximately 1,800 in the summer. Travel to and from Chebeague is by ferry, and almost all services and supplies must come from the mainland. While islanders take pride in their independence, they also work diligently to sustain a close-knit community for all ages. The Island Commons plays a prominent role in that effort.

The Administrator sets an example for the entire Commons team, willing to respond as needed for emergencies of all types. No day at the Commons is the same, and the Administrator must be able to deal with the unanticipated in a professional and creative manner.

As a visible leader, the administrator serves as the “face” of the Island Commons, working with other island nonprofit organizations as well as the community at large. Cultivating a strong community network for the Commons is essential.

  3. Building and facility management
  4. Preparation of the annual budget for consideration of the board
  5. Board and community relations, including collaboration on fundraising and development

Qualifications:

  1. Hold Level IV, section b, Residential Care Facility License or obtain the License within a reasonable period.

  5. We seek a candidate with prior experience working as an Administrator of a Level IV Residential Care Facility for more than 5 years. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional achievement would be preferred.
