Job description

Our client is working onfilling the role of Associate, Material Development - Kids Apparel for a top brand in NYC. Full time hours - 4-5 days onsite in their midtown office. Needing someone who has a strong understanding of knit apparel textile technology, analysis and structure. Can come from material development or fabric r&d as well but on the technology side of apparel. This role supports the technical development and execution of knit and woven fabrics across seasonal Kids Apparel programs. Working within the Fabric Team and with cross-functional partners, the position helps ensure fabrics meet quality, performance, construction, and aesthetic requirements from concept through bulk production.
  • Hourly pay rate approximately 35-40 an hour based on experience. Need help thru the end of the year but could be extended.

Responsibilities:
  • Support and facilitate seasonal fabric development for both knit and woven categories from initial development through final approval.
  • Evaluate and analyze fabric and yarn constructions, including yarn characteristics, fabric structure/weave, weight, gauge/count, finishing, and other relevant technical attributes.
  • Review fabric submissions and test reports to provide technical feedback related to construction, quality, performance, appearance, and overall suitability for the intended product.
  • Communicate technical fabric requirements, performance specifications, development comments, revisions, and approvals to mills and suppliers.
  • Generate, revise, and maintain fabric development requests and technical documentation.
  • Follow up on development status, outstanding submissions, revisions, and approvals to maintain seasonal timelines.
  • Identify and help troubleshoot fabric development and quality issues.
  • Track fabric developments, maintaining visibility to timelines, priorities, outstanding actions, and approvals.
  • Enter and maintain accurate fabric component data in PLM.
  • Organize and maintain fabric records and technical/development documentation.
  • Support the Fabric Team with fabric costing, benchmarking, and other development-related activities.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure fabric requirements and development decisions are clearly communicated and executed.

Required Qualifications:
  • 2-3 years ormore of relevant experience in technical fabric/material development.
  • A.A.S. or B.S. degree in Textile Science, Textile Engineering, or another relevant technical textile discipline.
  • Strong understanding and hands-on experience analyzing knit and woven fabric constructions and yarn characteristics.
  • Working knowledge of fabric manufacturing, coloration, dyeing, printing, finishing processes, and textile testing.
  • Ability to review fabric submissions and identify basic construction and quality issues.
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills, with the ability to manage multiple developments and priorities simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; familiarity with PLM systems preferred.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in technical documentation and data entry.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with mills, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Flexible, reliable, proactive, and solution-oriented, with a positive attitude and willingness to take on new challenges.
