What is a text typing job?

A text typing job involves entering written information into digital formats, such as documents, spreadsheets, or databases. Individuals in this role are responsible for accurately transcribing text from source materials, which may include handwritten notes, audio recordings, or printed documents. Strong typing skills, attention to detail, and good grammar are essential for success in this job. Text typists often work in administrative, data entry, or transcription roles across various industries.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a text typist?

To thrive as a Text Typist, you need excellent typing speed and accuracy, attention to detail, and a solid grasp of grammar and spelling, typically supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. These skills ensure that documents are produced quickly, accurately, and in accordance with professional standards, which is crucial for supporting business operations.

Job description

About Commonwealth Fusion Systems:

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is on a mission to deliver the urgent transition to fusion energy.

Combining decades of research, top talent, and new technologies, we’re designing and building commercially viable fusion power plants. And we're working with policymakers and suppliers to build the energy industry of the future.

We’re in the best position to make it happen. Since 2018, we’ve raised nearly $3 billion in capital, making us the largest and leading private fusion company in the world.

Now we’re looking for more thinkers, doers, builders, and makers to join us. People who’ll bring new perspectives, solve tough problems, and thrive as part of a team.

If that’s you and this role fits, we want to hear from you.

Join the power movement as an Onboarding Coordinator

The Onboarding Coordinator will be responsible for the employee experience, with a heavy focus on comprehensive onboarding, training coordination, and engagement.
What you'll do:

Support Employee Onboarding:

  • Pre-Onboarding Logistics: Manage the pre-onboarding process by sending "First Day" emails and text reminders, submitting MES tickets to provision Manufacturo access, booking hot desks via Envoy, and preparing physical onboarding folders with schedules and timesheets

  • Point of Contact & Arrival: Act as a primary resource for new employees, greeting incoming cohorts in the main lobby, distributing temporary badges, verifying I-9 documentation, and guiding them through their first days

  • Facility Tours: Lead initial facility tours to map out key areas (time clocks, break rooms, restrooms, production doors) and coordinate specialized guided manufacturing floor tours

  • Systems & App Onboarding: Guide new hires through opening and configuring core applications, ensuring they complete required acknowledgements in UKG, set up corporate Email/Slack, claim desks in Envoy, and have proper access to Docebo and Manufacturo

  • Stakeholder & Schedule Coordination: Manage the logistical coordination of the multi-day onboarding schedule. Ensure calendar invites are set and execute live session hand-offs with key stakeholders (IT, HR/Benefits, Operations, Leadership, and Safety)

  • PPE Coordination: Distribute onboarding folders and assist in the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) overview, ensuring hires receive hard hats, safety glasses, and digital vouchers for safety boots (Dival)

  • Training & Progress Tracking: Monitor independent, self-paced training progress via the Docebo admin console. Provide asynchronous remote support via Slack (including early morning check-ins for early-shift technicians) and seamlessly hand off technicians to their respective shift supervisors upon completion

  • Problem Resolution: Address and resolve any issues or challenges that arise during the onboarding process, utilizing the escalation matrix to troubleshoot login failures, missing system access, badging issues, or training delays

Provide People Operations Support:

  • Employee Inquiries: Respond promptly to employee questions and concerns, directing them to the appropriate resources as needed

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Communicate effectively with hiring managers, shift supervisors, and People Ops Business Partners regarding onboarding timelines, training delays, and employee floor hand-offs

  • Ad-Hoc Support: Provide support for ad-hoc projects within the People Operations team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability

  • Team Assistance: Offer general administrative support to the People Operations team, contributing to efficient and effective team operations

What we’re looking for:
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree
  • 3+ years of Human Resources, Onboarding, or Training Coordination experience
  • Familiarity with HRIS systems (specifically UKG), workspace management tools (Envoy), Learning Management Systems (Docebo), and standard corporate tools (Slack, Okta).
  • Knowledge of basic HR principles
  • Flexibility to provide early morning remote/asynchronous support for technicians on early shifts (e.g., 6:00 AM check-ins)
  • Strong verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills as well as strong customer service experience
  • The ability to prioritize the employee experience
  • Resiliency to work through challenges with optimism and adaptability
  • Attention to detail and the ability to track multiple cohorts concurrently
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and professionalism
  • Ability to take initiative, multitask, manage priorities, and work in a fast-paced organization
Must-have Requirements:
  • Perform activities such as typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time
  • Dedication to safety to mitigate industrial hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, and cryogenics
  • Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally
This is a contract position.
