What does text analytics do?

A job in text analytics involves analyzing large amounts of unstructured text data to extract meaningful insights, such as patterns, trends, and sentiments. It often requires skills in natural language processing (NLP), data analysis, and familiarity with tools like Python or R. The role supports decision-making in areas like customer feedback, social media monitoring, and market research.

What is a Text Analytics job?

A Text Analytics job involves extracting meaningful insights from unstructured text data using techniques like Natural Language Processing (NLP), machine learning, and statistical methods. Professionals in this field analyze text from sources such as customer reviews, social media, and documents to identify patterns, sentiment, and trends. Their work helps businesses make data-driven decisions, automate processes, and improve customer experiences. Common responsibilities include text preprocessing, developing models, and visualizing results for stakeholders.

Is 40 too old to become a data analyst?

Age is not a barrier to becoming a data analyst, as the role values skills such as data manipulation, statistical analysis, and proficiency with tools like Excel, SQL, and Python. Many professionals transition into data analysis later in their careers by gaining relevant certifications and experience, regardless of age.

What are some common projects or responsibilities for professionals working in Text Analytics?

Professionals in Text Analytics often work on projects such as sentiment analysis, topic modeling, entity recognition, and document classification, drawing insights from unstructured text data. A typical day may involve leveraging machine learning algorithms, cleaning and preprocessing text datasets, and presenting findings to stakeholders via reports or dashboards. Many text analytics specialists collaborate closely with data science teams, software developers, and business analysts to integrate their work into larger products and solutions. These responsibilities not only help organizations better understand customer feedback and market trends but also enable the automation of information extraction and decision-making processes. Over time, excelling in these areas can open doors to senior data science roles, lead analyst positions, or specialized NLP research opportunities.

What is the highest paying job in data analytics?

In data analytics, senior roles such as Data Science Manager, Director of Data Analytics, or Chief Data Officer typically offer the highest salaries, often exceeding six figures annually. These positions require advanced skills in statistical analysis, machine learning, and leadership, along with extensive experience and certifications.

Will AI replace a data analyst?

AI can automate certain tasks performed by data analysts, such as data cleaning and basic analysis, but it is unlikely to fully replace the role. Data analysts are needed for interpreting complex insights, making strategic decisions, and communicating findings, which require human judgment and domain expertise. Skills in data visualization, statistical methods, and tools like SQL or Python remain essential for the profession.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Text Analytics position, and why are they important?

To thrive in Text Analytics, you need expertise in natural language processing (NLP), data analysis, and strong programming skills in languages such as Python or R, typically supported by a degree in computer science, statistics, or a related field. Familiarity with tools like NLTK, SpaCy, TensorFlow, and data visualization platforms, as well as relevant certifications in data science or machine learning, is highly valued. Critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving abilities help professionals interpret complex textual data and convey insights to diverse audiences. These skills are important because they enable you to extract actionable information from large datasets, drive data-driven decision-making, and support organizational goals efficiently.

Job description

Company Overview:

Join Seerist, a leading provider of AI-driven, augmented analytics for threat and risk intelligence, designed to help commercial organizations and government anticipate, monitor, and manage global risks. Seerist delivers real-time insights, forecasts, and alerts that bring clarity to decisions and save valuable time for security and intelligence teams. Every day, Seerist helps our customers support their operations and missions globally, ensuring informed, rapid decisions.

Job Description:
We're looking for someone to fill a unique seat on the product team. A builder who sits at the intersection of data science, AI, and product development. The person in this role must operate with high agency: take fuzzy, early-stage concepts and turn them into working features end to end, collaborating closely with product leadership and domain experts throughout the process. We need someone who can help us scale that way of working across the organization.

What You'll Do
  • Work closely with our intelligence and product teams to create, build, and deliver novel, innovative capabilities powered by AI and machine learning.
  • Apply machine learning, NLP/text analytics, and generative AI (including large language models) to real problems in the threat intelligence domain.
  • Prototype rapidly, turning half-formed ideas into working demos that sharpen the team's thinking.
  • Build and maintain production services on AWS, writing clean Python and JavaScript across the stack.
  • Stay current on emerging AI/ML techniques and proactively surface "how could we use this?" opportunities relevant to Seerist's domain.
  • Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and solutions teams to ensure what gets built actually solves customer problems.

What We're Looking ForMindset & Working Style
  • Agency. You don't wait for a perfectly scoped ticket. You hear a fuzzy idea, ask the right questions, and start moving.
  • Collaborative challenge. You push back thoughtfully when something doesn't make sense, and you welcome the same in return. The process of building is a conversation, not a handoff.
  • Intellectual curiosity. You're always learning, reading papers, trying new tools, exploring adjacent domains, and you naturally connect what you're learning to what the team is building.
  • Communication. You can explain complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders, write well, and keep people in the loop without being asked.
Technical Skills
  • Strong foundation in machine learning and data science โ€” you've trained models, evaluated them rigorously, and put them into production.
  • Hands-on experience with generative AI and large language models (fine-tuning, prompt engineering, RAG architectures, evaluation).
  • Proficiency in Python for data/ML work and JavaScript for web development.
  • Experience with text analytics and NLP, classification, extraction, summarization, entity resolution.
  • Comfortable building and deploying on Amazon Web Services (Lambda, SageMaker, ECS, S3, etc.).
  • Able to work across the stack, from data pipelines to APIs to front-end interfaces.
Background
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (computer science, data science, mathematics, or similar).
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated through academic and professional experience.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in a role combining data science, ML engineering, or AI product development.
  • Experience shipping ML/AI features in a product context (not just notebooks and research).
Nice to Have
  • Familiarity with the threat intelligence, geopolitical risk, or security domain.
  • Experience working in a startup or growth-stage environment where scope is fluid.
  • Exposure to event-driven architectures or real-time data processing.

What Seerist offers:

  • Opportunity to work in a fast-moving, high-growth SaaS company
  • Competitive salary, bonus plan, 401(k) matching, and long term incentives
  • Comprehensive benefits including health, dental, vision, and life plans
  • Strong, results oriented culture
  • Remote and office-based work (3+ days in Reston office each week)
  • Paid Time Off
  • Paid Parental Leave (16 Weeks Primary, 4 Weeks Secondary)
  • Tuition Reimbursement
  • Professional Development Stipend

Seerist does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, non-disqualifying physical or mental disability, national origin, veteran status or any other basis covered by appropriate law. All employment is decided on the basis of qualifications, merit, and business need. #SF
