A Text Analytics job involves extracting meaningful insights from unstructured text data using techniques like Natural Language Processing (NLP), machine learning, and statistical methods. Professionals in this field analyze text from sources such as customer reviews, social media, and documents to identify patterns, sentiment, and trends. Their work helps businesses make data-driven decisions, automate processes, and improve customer experiences. Common responsibilities include text preprocessing, developing models, and visualizing results for stakeholders.

What does a text analytics do?

Professionals in Text Analytics often work on projects such as sentiment analysis, topic modeling, entity recognition, and document classification, drawing insights from unstructured text data. A typical day may involve leveraging machine learning algorithms, cleaning and preprocessing text datasets, and presenting findings to stakeholders via reports or dashboards. Many text analytics specialists collaborate closely with data science teams, software developers, and business analysts to integrate their work into larger products and solutions. These responsibilities not only help organizations better understand customer feedback and market trends but also enable the automation of information extraction and decision-making processes. Over time, excelling in these areas can open doors to senior data science roles, lead analyst positions, or specialized NLP research opportunities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in text analytics?

To thrive in Text Analytics, you need expertise in natural language processing (NLP), data analysis, and strong programming skills in languages such as Python or R, typically supported by a degree in computer science, statistics, or a related field. Job description

The Go-to-Market Strategic Analytics team delivers advanced analytics, measurement, and decision support across Best Buy's non-retail, customer-facing experiences (Digital, Category, Marketplace, Services, and Support). This role focuses on unlocking value from large-scale unstructured enterprise data and applying advanced analytical, statistical, and AI-driven techniques to solve complex business challenges. You will partner cross-functionally to leverage sources such as contact center transcripts, customer reviews, survey feedback, operational notes, and other text-based datasets to identify emerging issues, uncover root causes, quantify business impact, and influence enterprise strategy.
As a Decision Scientist, you will lead analytical initiatives focused on transforming unstructured data into measurable business outcomes. You will apply advanced analytics, large language models (LLMs), natural language processing techniques, and statistical methodologies to discover insights that would otherwise remain hidden within enterprise data. You will work across teams to develop scalable analytical solutions, quantify customer and business impacts, and help guide investments that improve customer experience, operational performance, and long-term business results.
This role is hybrid, which means you will be required to work on site Monday through Thursday at the Best Buy corporate office in Richfield, Minnesota. You can work virtually from home or another non Best Buy location on Friday. The recruiter or hiring manager will provide more details during the hiring process.
This position is not eligible for immigrationsponsorship.
What you'll do
  • Lead analytical initiatives that leverage structured and unstructured data to solve complex customer, operational, and business challenges.
  • Apply advanced analytics, AI, and large language models (LLMs) to generate insights from contact center interactions, customer feedback, operational notes, and other enterprise data sources.
  • Identify root causes, emerging trends, customer pain points, and operational opportunities through advanced analytical techniques.
  • Assess the frequency, severity, and long-term customer and business impacts of identified issues to help prioritize enterprise investments and improvement efforts.
  • Translate ambiguous business questions into analytical approaches and data-driven recommendations.
  • Develop repeatable analytical solutions and AI-enabled workflows that improve the speed, quality, and scale of insight generation.
  • Partner with business and technology teams to influence decisions through compelling analysis and storytelling.
  • Stay current on emerging AI and analytics capabilities, applying new techniques to deliver business value.
Basic qualifications
  • 3+ years experience in analytics, data science, or a related field, applying analytical and statistical techniques to solve business problems and influence decision-making.
  • 2+ years experience using SQL and/or Python to analyze and transform data.
  • 2+ years experience working with large and complex datasets from multiple sources.
  • 1+ year experience applying AI, machine learning, natural language processing, or large language models to real-world business challenges.
  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Business Analytics, or a related quantitative field.
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience leveraging generative AI technologies, including LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, AI agents, or related capabilities.
  • Experience analyzing unstructured customer or operational data such as contact center interactions, customer reviews, survey feedback, or case notes.
  • Strong analytical foundation in statistical analysis, experimentation, predictive modeling, or text analytics.
  • Demonstrated success influencing business decisions through data-driven insights and recommendations.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex analyses into clear business actions.
  • Experience in customer experience, contact center analytics, retail, e-commerce, or related industries.
  • Master's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Business Analytics, or a related quantitative field.
