What Your Job Will Be Like

We have an exciting opportunity for a Microelectronic/Semiconductor Test Technologist to join our compound semiconductor microelectronics team! We work in a highly collaborative teaming environment to develop new custom application specific circuits with direct, relevant impact to our national security mission. The selected candidate will perform a wide variety of circuit test, evaluation, and troubleshooting activities in world-class test facilities. Testing may include but is not limited to: DC and RF electrical testing, electronic components radiation testing, thermal/humidity chamber testing, and shock and vibration table testing.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Work with senior staff to develop and document test plans.
  • Assemble and inspect electronic hardware (e.g. printed circuit boards)
  • Build, modify, and maintain a wide variety of electronic, electromechanical, and mechanical instruments, systems, or processes
  • Coordinate with shipping and receiving to transport hardware to and from remote facilities.
  • Work with environmental and safety experts to identify, document, and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Identify, acquire, and setup diagnostic instruments.
  • Execute electrical circuit tests in a laboratory or radiation test facility setting.
  • Assemble and distribute data packages from completed tests.
  • Troubleshoot or diagnose circuit failures.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range

$74,700 - $144,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require
  • Associate's degree in Electrical or Electronics Technology or relevant STEM discipline, plus (1) or more years of directly related experience.
  • Ability to compile test data and determine conclusion.
  • Ability to travel up to one week per month to support testing at remote US facilities
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q Security Clearance
Qualifications We Desire
  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics or Microelectronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or relevant STEM discipline.
  • Experience using and debugging bench level electrical test equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, function generators, etc.).
  • Experience performing electronics soldering process and techniques.
  • Experience with testing of semiconductor devices and troubleshooting of test setups, particularly in radiation environments.
  • Working knowledge of MATLAB and/or NI LabView to control and acquire data from electronic instruments.
About Our Team

The III-V Microelectronics Department is responsible for the research, development, and technology maturation of Group III-V compound semiconductors within the Microsystems Engineering, Science, and Applications Center. With highly collaborative teaming, we enable the creation, development and delivery of application specific microelectronic components addressing high-performance, harsh-environment communication, sensing, power, and control problems. Our products provide solutions to customers who need a trusted partner to create and deliver on stated performance, size, weight, power, and cost benefits relative to alternative technologies. Core department capabilities include electronic modeling and simulation; epitaxial design, growth and characterization; rad-hard microelectronic device and circuit design, microfabrication, characterization, and reliability; and high-reliability microelectronic product design, characterization, and delivery for high-consequence national security applications

Security Clearance

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
