THE CLASSICAL ACADEMY
POSITION DESCRIPTION

Title:  Paraprofessional, SSS                         Department:  Student Support Services

Hourly Rate: $18.27
This position is part time, with .8 FTE available. 
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:


The Special Education Para Educator Generalist will work in a team environment in partnership with general and special education teachers and other para educators in all school settings. The para educator will assist students in academic areas such as reading, writing and/or math including implementing curriculum, adapting instructional strategies and materials according to the needs of students. Further, the para educator will support a range of social, emotional, and behavioral interventions. The para educator will provide instructional and/or behavioral supports to students under the direction of a special education teacher.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:

Reports to the Director of Student Support Services.  Supervised by Resource Teacher(s).

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Supports students in academic areas such as reading, writing and/or math including implementing curriculum and adapting instructional strategies/materials according to the needs of students.
  • Assists resource teachers and special service providers in carrying out instructional programs and lessons in various learning environments as designated in the students IEP plan.
  • Coordinates completion of assignments with regular classroom teachers, case manager and/or parents.
  • Works with students in one on one and small group situations to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher, and or helps support the remediation of academic skill deficits under the direction of the special education teacher.
  • Assists case manager with the completion of  paperwork related to IEP's.
  • Proctors test taking when requested by teachers.
  • Administers behavior modification as directed.
  • Acts as a liaison between special and general education teacher including relaying messages, input and feedback on how things are working.
  • Provides support for substitute teachers so the classroom can run effectively in the absence of a regular teacher.
  • Utilizes district provided CPI training appropriately and consistently.
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities including role modeling, diffusing volatile and stressful situations and following through on appropriate discipline per guidelines.
  • Attends pre-job training, on-going training, meetings and seminars as required during the school year in order to remain up to date of job procedures.
  • Consistently attends and reports for work on time
  • Manages yearly calendar of IEP meetings
  • Attends team meetings when schedule allows or is required

MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Assists other Special Education professionals as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain and renew/maintain CPI, CPR and First Aid certification
