Test Engineer - Systems

Boyd Thermal by Eaton is seeking a test engineer at our Billerica, MA facility to support our product line of liquid-to-liquid, ambient cooling systems and compressor-based chiller products primarily used in data center, semi-conductor and medical equipment markets. This individual must be a highly motivated self-starter with exceptional communication skills and a strong electrical and mechanical aptitude.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Daily Systems production support, troubleshooting of electrical and controls problems on the manufacturing floor.

  • Development of mechanical and electro-mechanical test fixtures for testing production systems and electrical boxes.

  • Develop acceptance test procedures (ATP) based on product testing requirements (QTP).

  • Design, develop, and build automated / semi-automated test and processing equipment to enable safe, reliable, and cost-effective completion of acceptance test procedures.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain program for automated test data capture for defect tracking and yield reporting.

  • Provide support for qualification and reliability tests including test design, instrumentation selection, test setup and performing tests as required.

  • Assist in development of training aids for production (wiring, crimping, software, test setup, etc.).

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ideal candidate will have a BS in electro-mechanical or electrical engineering and 7-10 years of hands-on experience in electrical design and troubleshooting. Knowledge of electrical safety codes and standards is required.

  • Prior experience with instrumentation and test setup is required.

  • Proficiency in programming/scripting and familiarity with testing frameworks and tools is highly preferred. In-depth experience with Visual Basic software, programming PLCs and PID temperature controllers is desired.

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project) are desirable. Working knowledge of wiring and crimping standards such as IPC-620B is a plus.

Additional experience / skills in the following areas are preferred:

  • Familiarity with Performance/Hydrostatic Testing of Pumps Systems

  • HTML, CSS, C#, ASP.NET Core, Vb.Net, JavaScript, Ajax, Bootstrap, SQL Servers (triggers, stored procedures)

  • Understanding of industrial communication protocols (BACnet, ProfiNet, Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, serial)

  • Knowledge of communication with devices (printers, torques, hiPot, PLC)

  • Ladder Logic for PLC's

  • LabView

This role is based at our Billerica MA Location. This position will report to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.

Base Compensation: $110,000-$130,000, 1st shift. Bonus eligible.
