Job description

Position Summary:


The Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and improving smoker products and related components from concept through production. This role works closely with manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and marketing teams to ensure products are functional, manufacturable, cost-effective, and aligned with brand standards. The Design Engineer supports both new product development and continuous improvement initiatives in a high-mix manufacturing environment.


Key Responsibilities:


Product Design & Development

· Design smoker assemblies, components, and accessories using 3D CAD software

· Develop detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of materials (BOMs)

· Support new product introductions (NPI) from concept, prototyping, and testing through production launch

· Incorporate thermal performance, airflow, durability, and safety considerations into designs

Manufacturing Support

· Collaborate with manufacturing and operations teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective

· Troubleshoot design-related production issues and implement corrective actions

· Support continuous improvement efforts related to quality, efficiency, and cost reduction

· Assist with tooling, fixtures, and assembly process improvements

Testing & Validation

· Support product testing, including thermal performance, structural integrity, and safety compliance

· Analyze test results and recommend design changes as needed

· Ensure products meet applicable regulatory and safety requirements

Documentation & Change Management

· Maintain accurate engineering documentation and revision control

· Process engineering change orders (ECOs) and update drawings and BOMs accordingly

· Support supplier communication for design clarification and technical requirements

Cross-Functional Collaboration

· Work with sourcing to evaluate materials and suppliers

· Partner with quality to address nonconformances and field issues

· Support marketing and sales with technical product knowledge as needed


Qualifications:


Education & Experience

· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field

· 2–5+ years of design engineering experience in a manufacturing environment

· Experience with metal fabrication, welding, sheet metal, or thermal systems preferred

Technical Skills

· Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar)

· Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and DFM/DFA principles

· Ability to interpret engineering drawings and GD&T

· Familiarity with BOM management and ERP systems is a plus

Soft Skills

· Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

· Effective communication and collaboration across departments

· Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

· Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and safety
