What to Expect

A Cell Recycling Operator at Gigafactory 1 is responsible for the equipment operation and overall production output of the Cell Recycling Pilot Plant. The operator is also responsible for ensuring all Cell Recycling equipment is operating at peak-efficiency in correlation with specific safety guidelines.

As a Tesla Gigafactory 1 Cell Recycling Operator, you will have the opportunity to drive Tesla toward closing the loop on battery recycling. Cell Recycling Operators will work closely with engineering personnel to continuously develop and improve cell recycling systems.

What You'll Do
  • Operate and monitorproprietary cell recycling equipment, bulk material flow systems, high-flow exhaust and scrubber systems, water/wastewater systems, and separation equipment (e.g. magnetic separation systems, vibratory systems, etc.)
  • Start and stop equipment as well as maintain facility operation through monitoring control software and verifying parameters/trends; improve the reliability of equipment and systems through collaboration with engineering and Program Management and adjust process parameters to optimization
  • Provide support for new process equipment testing, installation, and commissioning; supply feedback on performance of process equipment highlighting issues and necessary improvements
  • Track process data and collect samples for analysis
  • Perform routine operator rounds of equipment and system checks
  • Provide emergency spill response/cleanup and perform decontamination of equipment
  • Perform breakdown/processing and packaging of universal waste streams such as battery packs, modules, and cells

What You'll Bring
  • Required to work with and around hazardous areas and hazardous chemicals and confined spaces
  • Experience with chemical handling and water distribution is desired
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills along with strong attention to detail, flexibility, and prioritization
  • Multitasks and adapts to constant change
  • Lift at least 50-75 lbs. on a regular basis, perform repetitive hand and wrist motions, and climb ladders/stairs, Work in loud environment. Must be able to discern audible alarms
  • Basic mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, telehandlers, boom lifts, scissor lifts and carts

Work Environment / Essential Physical Demands

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day
  • Ability to work outside in the elements ranging from -10F up to 110F in the wind, rain, and snow. Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures
  • Lift, push and carry up to 50 - 75 lbs. for up to 20 feet in distance frequently and repetitively, Bend, lift and reach frequently and repetitively, Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time
  • Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing
  • Demonstrated ability to handle and manipulate tooling, quickly and accurately during new hire training and maintaining ability throughout employment
  • Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (safety glasses, safety shoes, hardhat) and adhere to safety rules, including the ability to wear a full-face air-purifying respirator while performing mildly to moderately exertional tasks for up to 4 consecutive hours, up to 12 hours per day
  • Open to schedule flexibility that will allow for a variety of shifts, including days, nights, or weekends as needed
