Job description

We’re looking for an Underwriter, War & Terrorism

Based remotely or from one of our offices located in Richmond, Virginia or Miami and reporting to the Head of War & Terrorism, you’ll work alongside our established and successful US network Terrorism team to execute the class strategy, contribute to the production of the business plan, and attract and underwrite War & Terror business.

As an active member of this well-established team, alongside other experienced members of the team, be responsible for mentoring and developing more junior team members.

What you will help us do
  • Contribute towards the War & Terror Underwriting Strategy
  • Reporting on, and communication of underwriting activities to senior management
  • Monitor statistics, aggregates, probable maximum loss and claims
  • Development of business opportunities in the USA
  • Meeting with clients in the USA
  • The management of relationships with brokers within the War & Terror market
  • Where appropriate, be called upon to represent the Company at various market meetings, conferences and committees.
  • Underwrite, in accordance with the business plan.
What you require for the role
  • Demonstrable Terrorism/Political Violence or Property class knowledge and experience
  • Preferably Managing Agency experience
  • Well-presented and professional
  • Strong influencing, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills - including the ability to communicate effectively at all levels with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Able to work autonomously and as part of a high-performing and motivated team
  • Able to adapt to a pressurized and time-sensitive environment
  • To operate all controls as instructed within the area of responsibility
  • To report any risk related concerns to the Risk function
