This competition will be used to fill two positions.ย
The Department of Chemical & Materials Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Alberta is seeking applications for up to two full-time, tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank in Energy Materials. These positions are part of the University of Alberta's priority to build a diverse faculty in strategic research areas; thus, candidates from traditionally underrepresented and equity-deserving groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
We welcome applications from scholars with research expertise in energy-related materials and/or processes for energy production, conversion, storage, transport, and utilization. All research related to experimental and/or computational aspects of energy materials is of interest, including materials design and processing, validated artificial intelligence and models at the mesoscale and systems scale. The areas of application are infrastructure for fossil fuels (gas/oil), hydrogen, greenhouse gas mitigation (e.g., CO2), renewable energy, nuclear, defence, dual-use applications, and other related advanced materials.
This role will be in the Department of Chemical & Materials Engineering. Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.ย
- Licensed Professional Engineer or become a licensed Professional Engineer through the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) within five years from the date of hire.
- A record of publication in reputable, peer-reviewed journals and conferences. proceedings, as well as research experience and skills.
- Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses.
- A record of service and volunteerism broadly related to their research and teaching.
Preferred Qualifications
- Teaching experience and training in teaching, lesson planning, and curriculum design.
- Teaching, research, service, and volunteer work related to the role as well as community boards and organizations and outreach to and helping in underserved and underrepresented communities.
- Grant application and financial management experience and/or training.
- Industry experience in engineering, sciences, and technology industries.
- Experience with interdisciplinary and collaborative research projects as well as with managing large, multi-year research projects.
- Experience working with industry and community partners for research projects.
- Team, lab, and facility management experience, including but not limited to safety, supervision, and procurement.
