POSITION SUMMARY:

The Terminal Operations Manager is responsible for leading and managing the day-to-day operations of the La Porte Terminal. This role provides direction, leadership, and support to both salaried and hourly employees to ensure operational excellence while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, productivity, and cost efficiency.

The Terminal Operations Manager is accountable for achieving daily, weekly, and long-term operational objectives by effectively managing terminal activities, workforce performance, maintenance programs, and capital improvement projects. This position ensures that all team members are properly trained, qualified, and equipped to perform their responsibilities safely and efficiently.

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:

Terminals Leadership

  • Create inventory of all terminal operations and relevant measures.
  • Deliver versus KPI's: Volume, Variable Cost, Fixed cost, Working Capital.
  • Develop and implement budgets and CAPEX plans.
  • Integrate corporate and regional initiatives to ensure regulatory compliance via direct control for operated assets and via contract and audit for non-LNA operated terminals.
  • Drive Integration with all Functions by funneling/translate all functional requests to terminals and ensure alignment with leadership direction.

Coordinate with Sales and Logistics

  • Maintain daily communication with logistics and dispatch.
  • Reconcile issues with terminals.
  • Coordinate and communicate outages/issues with logistics and Sales.
  • Continually look for business improvement opportunities.
  • Develop plans to implement projects in compliance with schedule, budget, regulatory, and strategic components.
  • Proactively use competency centers to drive improved performance at Terminals.

Managing and Leading Staff

  • Implement processes, systems, new technology to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the customer service and shipping functions.
  • Direct and supervise the terminal employees. This includes adjusting staffing levels, revising performance standards, employee selection/hiring, utilizing progressive discipline, employee development, etc.
  • Complete training/certification and information sharing to ensure competency in the teams' roles and decision-making capabilities.
  • Develop and monitor individual/team performance against agreed upon performance standards to ensure the team is productive and effective in their tasks.
  • Drive employee safety performance to meet company/regulatory requirements and to ensure injury goals are achieved.
  • Drive employee environmental performance and ensure all permit/regulatory requirements are met.

ATTRIBUTES:

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Multiple roles of responsibility are preferred (i.e., production, maintenance, process, quality, etc.).
  • Effective Leadership and problem-solving skills, including experience managing direct reports.
  • Knowledgeable of state and federal laws, regulations, and agencies (OSHA, DOT).
  • Demonstrated ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate on all levels.
  • Strong sense of urgency in meeting customer needs and correcting safety issues.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects and meet all required deadlines.
  • Consistently provide professional, friendly assistance to employees, customers, contractors, and consultants.
  • Strong organizational skills required for thorough follow through of multiple projects involving an extensive network of departments and people.
  • Must be capable of working overtime, weekends, or holidays, if needed.
  • Demonstrated use and knowledge of computerized business systems such as SAP.
  • Must have strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint software.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Must be physically able to perform work assigned.
  • Must be physically capable of accessing all terminal locations.
  • Tolerate outside weather conditions as well as exposure to industrial high temperature, noise, and dust.
  • Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 200 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.
  • Will be working in an office environment, mining, and mineral processing environment.
  • The employee will be exposed to the following working conditions: Extreme Heat and Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes, and Metallic Particles.
  • The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing, and sitting.
  • Able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • BS/BA degree in Business or Engineering, or equivalent combination education and related experience, or other related technical degree, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Ten (10) years mechanical and process experience and at least five (5) years of leadership experience in an industrial manufacturing setting.

PREFFERED EXPERIENCE:

  • Lime, cement, or minerals industry process experience strongly preferred.
