Job Description:

What's the role

The Terminal Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Terminal and its pipelines. This role monitors equipment and product movement, performs inspections and testing, maintains regulatory compliance, and works closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure safe and reliable operations.

Accountabilities:

Safety & Compliance

• Perform all work safely and support the company's Goal Zero commitment

• Maintain a high level of safety awareness and immediately identify, report, and address abnormal or unsafe conditions that could result in a product release or other safety incidents

• Follow all Standard and Local Operating Procedures (SOPs & LOPs), Safe Work Procedures (SWPs), as well as regulatory requirements.

• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including Operator Qualification requirements, HSSE standards, SPCC requirements, Hazmat regulations, RCRA, AQMD, Weights and Measures, and other applicable standards

• Support facility housekeeping and maintain a clean, safe work environment.

Operations & Product Movement

• Monitor pipeline and terminal equipment, including meters, instrumentation, and computer systems

• Coordinate and perform product receipts, transfers, and deliveries through pipelines, storage tanks, truck racks, marine docks, and rail operations

• Execute pipeline lineups and follow scheduled operating orders

• Monitor product movement and operating conditions, recognizing and responding to deviations from approved operating procedures

• Work with stakeholders, including the Control Center, Scheduling, and customers, to resolve scheduling conflicts and communicate operational constraints or equipment issues

Inspection, Measurement & Inventory Control

• Conduct required routine and periodic asset inspections and maintain records

• Perform stock accounting activities, manual tank gauging, temperature verification, and equipment calibration

• Complete inventory documentation and support investigation and resolution of inventory Loss/Gain variances

• Participate in Loss/Gain meetings and provide operational insights for troubleshooting activities

Product Sampling & Testing

• Validate and calibrate testing equipment prior to use

• Obtain product samples in accordance with established measurement procedures

• Perform product quality testing

• Determine sampling quantities based on batch size and adhere to sampling requirements

Asset Management & Continuous Improvement

• Support facility surveillance activities in accordance with the Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plan, site checklists, security requirements, release prevention practices, and housekeeping standards

• Actively participate in AMS, SAP and Maintenance execution processes.

• Support audits, inspections, compliance reviews, and company-sponsored improvement initiatives

• Contribute to operational excellence and continuous improvement efforts

What we need from you

• Must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without the requirement of a work visa

• Obtain and hold a valid TWIC card. This is a requirement per US Coast Guard

• High school diploma or equivalent required

• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record

• Ability to obtain and maintain all required Operator Qualifications (OQ)

• Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and respond to emergency callouts as required. This is a 24/7/365 manned facility working 12 hour shifts

• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and industrial environments

• Basic computer proficiency, including experience using operating systems and Microsoft Office applications

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Demonstrated commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in terminal operations, pipeline operations, refining, petrochemical, marine, rail, trucking, or bulk liquid storage facilities

• Knowledge of petroleum products, product movement systems, custody transfer, and inventory control processes

• Experience with SAP/S4, terminal automation systems, SCADA systems, or computerized maintenance management systems

• Experience working in a highly regulated industrial environment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Ability to safely operate and monitor terminal, pipeline, and tank farm equipment

• Ability to interpret operating procedures, technical documents, work instructions, and regulatory requirements

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities

• Ability to work independently while effectively coordinating with operations personnel, customers, and stakeholders

• Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities

• Ability to recognize, assess, and respond appropriately to abnormal operating conditions

• Demonstrated attention to detail in recordkeeping, inspections, measurement, and testing activities

• Commitment to continuous learning and development of operational and technical skills

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk, climb stairs, ladders, and tank structures on a routine basis

• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds

• Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and around moving mechanical equipment when required

• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including flame-resistant clothing, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and respiratory protection as required

• Ability to perform field inspections and operational duties for extended periods, including standing, bending, and climbing

What we offer

The base salary range for this position is $72,000 - $108,000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.

For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.

Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
