Summary:
The Assistant Fleet Manager supports the Fleet Manager in overseeing all aspects of the organization's vehicle fleet operations, ensuring optimal performance, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with safety regulations.
Responsibilities
  • Driver Oversight: Set clear expectations for assigned drivers regarding safety, performance, and compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
  • Safety First: Foster a safety-driven culture by monitoring compliance with DOT regulations and company safety standards.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track driver metrics such as on-time performance, fuel efficiency, hours of service (HOS), and compliance with routing and scheduling requirements.
  • Communication & Coaching: Maintain open lines of communication with drivers, explaining the "why" behind company policies and decisions to promote understanding and alignment.
  • Problem-Solving: Quickly and effectively resolve driver issues, including routing, load assignments, and equipment concerns.
  • Team Environment: Build a respectful, collaborative team atmosphere where drivers feel supported and empowered to make sound decisions.
  • Operational Excellence: Create a sense of urgency within the team to meet delivery timelines, address customer concerns, and handle operational issues promptly.
  • Compliance & Documentation: Monitor driver performance and provide documentation, coaching, or corrective action as necessary.

Qualifications required:
  • Previous experience in transportation management, dispatching, or a similar leadership role in the logistics industry.
  • Strong knowledge of DOT regulations, hours of service (HOS), and safety requirements.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS) and other industry-specific tools.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills to engage and motivate drivers.
  • A proactive, solution-oriented mindset to navigate challenges in transportation operations.

Work Environment:
  • This position is located in an active industrial manufacturing and distribution center with moderate to high noise levels, temperature variations, and material handling equipment in operation. The role may require extended periods of standing or walking on concrete floors and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and steel-toed boots. The fast-paced environment involves time-sensitive and safety sensitive operations and may include various shift schedules to support production and distribution needs.
