Job Description
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions
  • Unloads grain and grain by-products from trucks.
  • Operator must be able to complete a pre and post track check to determine the accuracy of loads and empties on the train list.
  • Must be able to be attentive and alert to safely operate door guns and car vibrators and open and close rail hopper doors and hatches as required while working at heights and in close proximity to moving rail cars and barges. Responsible for cleaning barge covers and walk ways after loading using leaf blowers, brooms, shovels and/or water.
  • Must possess the ability to recognize and identify the various grains and grain by-products. If during the course of the day the operator encounters out of condition grain, wet floors, mixed grain or any other condition not consistent with normal grain conditions it must be communicated immediately to the Pit Lead, Barge Loader operator, Supervisor, and Superintendent.
  • Must have sufficient ability to be able to perform all barge/deck hand duties in a safe manner and productively in all conditions including high / low river conditions and inclement weather including ice. Assist with any maintenance activities on the river or in the plant.
  • Must be able to perform rolling stock inspections on the locomotive and skid steer, and be able to operate the skid steer.
  • Wear all required PPE for any and all jobs being performed
  • Must fully recognize hazards associated with rail and truck operations and take appropriate steps to ensure they and all personnel working in the rail and truck dump adhere to safe operating rules and policies. Assist in all areas of the plant as needed
  • Know and understand duties and responsibilities in the event of an emergency evacuation or man overboard emergency.
  • Regular attendance at safety meetings and training sessions as directed by Shift Leader, Supervisor, SHE Manager or Superintendent.
