Job description

Zen-Noh Grain Corporation (ZGC) was formed in 1979 to accomplish the goal of establishing a safe and stable supply of U.S. corn, milo, soybeans, and other U.S. food supplies. ZGC is a U.S. subsidiary of ZEN-NOH, the largest agricultural cooperative association in Japan. We operate a grain and oilseed export terminal in Convent, Louisiana, which is the highest-handle grain export terminal in the U.S. In recent years, we have expanded our grain origination and export footprint with joint ventures in Brazil, Canada and Hong Kong. In addition to grain trading, we operate a forage processing and export business headquartered in Washington.
This job is primarily responsible for coaching the line organization staff (all roles) on the effective use of safety systems so these systems enable and facilitate the desired distinctive behaviors to achieve Safe Operations.
In this job, you will:
  • Identify opportunities to improve the knowledge and skill of the line organization and improve safety systems to positively impact achieving Safe Operation; implement approved recommendations.
  • Assist with monthly trainings, ensuring a different location monthly.
  • Communicate frequently with Facility Managers and Group Managers to include working in the field, conducting observations and coaching of management.
  • Report progress or issues to applicable parties (e.g. General Manager, Safety Manager, etc.).
  • Attends pre-shift meetings and meet with management and hourly personnel during site visits.
  • Conduct various audits/site visits for each assigned area/location; includes site visit reports, using detailed checklist for site visits to assist in evaluating and measuring leading indicators, working with various safety and location staff, and providing report(s) to Safety Manager after audit completed.
  • Visit medical facilities as needed with the facility manager.
  • Attend and participate in operation planning/training sessions; includes researching, recommending, presenting on any selected options for safety-related impacts.
  • May conduct new employee orientation or assist with new employee orientation or other training at location to include monthly training, pre-shift training, contractor orientation and updating the company's safety management system software.
  • Follow up on accident, injury, near miss (safety), and incidents for the locations assigned to verify completion, root cause identified and corrective action has been implemented and is working; ensure Safety Manager is contacted immediately after notification of a first aid, reportable, fatality, or incident resulting in multiple injuries.
  • Assist other divisions with changes to the operations, new work processes or products; where applicable.
  • May assist Industrial Hygienist or conduct Industrial Hygiene testing at locations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education
Required - Degree in Safety or equivalent education and training.
Preferred - Degree in Safety.
Experience
Required - 1 years' safety experience; including experience in people management and training.
Preferred - 3 year's safety experience.
License/Certification
Required - Valid driver's license and ability to meet company auto insurance requirements (along with any age restrictions due to the company auto insurance).
Preferred - ASP or GSP, or working towards one of these certifications from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of auditing, identifying hazards, unsafe conditions or unsafe work practices.
  • Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Good presentation skills.
  • Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of people within and outside the organization.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Excellent coaching, mentoring, and team building skills.

Physical Demands & Requirements
Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
Ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, balance, stoop and kneel, occasionally.
Ability to stand or sit constantly/continuously.
The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.
Environmental Conditions
The work environment described here are meant to be representative of those an employee would normally encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.
The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside where there are limited extremes to heat and/or cold; moderate noise; a normal office environment as well as outside in heat/cold, wet/humid/ and dry/arid conditions.
Frequent travel required; up to 85%, including overnight travel (travel may be dependent on division supported).
The expected base pay range for this role is:
$57,000.00 - $76,200.00
Actual pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including work location, job-related knowledge, skills and relevant experience for the job. Pay amount does not guarantee employment for any particular period of time.
