Job description

The MedicalAssistant assists wound care provider(s) with the delivery of patient care viaclinical practice, house calls, and other facility locations, provides basictriage, and helps to ensure safe care is provided.

Thisposition requires a minimum of five (5) years of Medical Assistant experience.Qualified candidates must possess strong knowledge of the front office, medicalterminology, communication skills, organizational skills, and a patient-focusedattitude.

Dutiesand Responsibilities:

  • Reviews and prepares medical records to ensure completeness prior to patient exam, obtaining missing documentation. Documents clinic visit, observations, and related activities. ย 
  • Assists with initiation of patient history and physical assessment. Assist physicians with physical exams and simple in-house procedures.
  • Checks patient vital signs and takes body measurements, documenting results in patient chart.
  • Prepares and maintains exam and treatment rooms, cleaning after patient discharges to ensure a clean and sanitized environment.
  • Maintains supplies inventory and ensures patient care equipment is clean and properly functioning, reporting defective equipment and supplies to supervisor.
  • Collects specimens and prepares them for lab and performs urinalysis on urine specimens. Prepares lab results for physicians to sign.
  • Administers breathing treatments, injections, performs EKGs, debridement, applying appropriate dressings, etc.
  • Answers phone calls, relaying patient requests and questions to appropriate individuals. Explains provider instructions to patient, as appropriate. Provides teaching to patients and families within scope of knowledge base.
  • Assists with scheduling/referral of patients for specific treatments.
  • Responds to medical emergencies and administers first aid as appropriate.
  • Provide Medical Assistant clinical support for house calls and other site/facility locations as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required.

MinimumQualifications:

PhysicalRequirements:

The physical activities of this position mayinclude climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping,kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion. Must have good balance andcoordination. The physical requirements of this position are medium work -exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of forcefrequently. The Medical Assistant is required to have close visual acuityincluding color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity,such as assessing patients, and analyzing data and figures; transcribing;viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading. Frequent invasive andnon-invasive patient contact. Exposure to patient body fluids as well asexposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
