Role Responsibilities

You will be responsible for leading, developing, and mentoring student-athletes in the Shawano Community High School Tennis program. As the Varsity Head Tennis Coach, you will establish the vision and culture of the program while teaching fundamental and advanced tennis skills, match strategy, sportsmanship, and mental toughness. The head coach will design and implement effective practice plans, prepare athletes for competition, oversee all aspects of the varsity program, and collaborate with assistant and lower-level coaches to ensure consistent player development. Additional responsibilities include organizing practices and matches, ensuring athlete safety, communicating effectively with student-athletes, parents, and staff, managing equipment and uniforms, and fulfilling all school and WIAA administrative requirements.

Role Requirements

The ideal candidate will foster a culture of teamwork, sportsmanship, accountability, and continuous improvement while creating a positive and competitive tennis program. The Varsity Head Tennis Coach will provide leadership for all levels of the program, working collaboratively with assistant coaches and the athletic department to establish a unified philosophy that supports long-term athlete development. The successful candidate will maintain clear and consistent communication with student-athletes, parents, and staff while upholding the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and academic support. A commitment to building positive relationships, promoting character development, and representing Shawano Community High School with pride is essential.

Qualifications

  • Previous coaching experience preferred (head coaching experience a plus)
  • Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals and strategy
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor high school student-athletes
  • Effective communication and organizational skills
  • Must meet all district and Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association coaching requirements
