Hope Valley Country Club, located in Durham, North Carolina, and managed by Bobby Jones Links, was founded in 1926. Hope Valley is an elite private club featuring a classic Donald Ross designed golf course, state-of-the-art tennis facility, resort-style pool complex, and a spacious, welcoming clubhouse offering its members first-class recreation, dining, and programming. Hope Valley is ideally situated in the heart of one of Southeast’s most vibrant, exciting areas.

Hope Valley is hiring a Racquets Instructor. The Racquets Instructor is responsible for helping deliver high-quality tennis and pickleball instruction to members and guests of the private country club. This position involves teaching group clinics/camps alongside the Racquets Professional team. The Racquet Instructor will focus on delivering junior tennis programs but may also participate in adult clinics, social events, and lessons, and assist with daily/weekly/monthly court maintenance.

Responsibilities:

  • Follow the direction of the Racquet Professional staff when assisting with on-court programs.
  • Deliver fun, engaging, and safe instructional programming to all members and guests, making their experience memorable.
  • Instruct group clinics/camps and individual hitting sessions with members of all ages, levels, and backgrounds.
  • Assist with daily/weekly/monthly court maintenance and facility upkeep including sweeping and lining courts, disposal of trash, weeding, filling water coolers, attaching windscreens, blowing off sidewalks and picking up stray balls and trash.
  • Assist with racquet shop duties as needed, including answering member questions, receiving phone calls, tidying merchandise displays and restrooms, assisting with racquet stringing/re-gripping.
  • Assist with junior development programs, including tournaments, leagues, and inter/intraclub matches, and mentoring junior players in their development.
  • Assist with events and socials, including round-robin tournaments, mixers, and themed tennis parties, to promote camaraderie and community engagement among club members.
  • Assist with pro shop equipment and apparel sales and stringing services, providing recommendations and advice to members on equipment selection and maintenance.
  • Deliver exceptional service through attentive communication, passion for racquet sports and a willingness to go the extra mile to make our members happy.
  • Collaborate with other professionals and team members to deliver a top-notch member experience on and off the courts.

Qualifications

  • USTA Safe Play/Coach Youth Tennis Certified with a strong playing ability and knowledge of fundamentals, techniques, and strategies. 1-2 years of coaching experience preferred.
  • RSPA/PTR Level 1 certification preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Enthusiasm for promoting tennis and growing the sport within the club community.
  • Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by club events and operations.
  • Must be willing and able to thrive in a team environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIORNMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods of intense physical exertion including running, lifting and stretching.
  • Must be able to lift more than 50 pounds at times.
