Job description

Position Summary
The Weight Loss & Obesity Medicine Nurse Practitioner will provide comprehensive evaluations, develop individualized treatment plans, prescribe evidence-based pharmacologic therapies, monitor patient progress, and educate patients on achieving sustainable weight loss.
The ideal candidate is passionate about preventive medicine, obesity management, metabolic health, and improving patients' overall wellness.
Primary Responsibilities
The selected provider will independently evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage patients seeking medical weight management services.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Medical Weight Loss
  • Perform comprehensive medical weight loss consultations
  • Obtain detailed medical, dietary, and lifestyle histories
  • Develop individualized weight management plans
  • Establish realistic patient goals
  • Monitor treatment progress through scheduled follow-up visits
  • Adjust treatment plans based on clinical response

Obesity Medicine
Evaluate and manage patients with:
  • Obesity
  • Overweight
  • Metabolic Syndrome
  • Prediabetes
  • Type 2 Diabetes
  • Hypertension
  • Hyperlipidemia
  • Insulin Resistance
  • Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD)
  • Obesity-related comorbidities

Medication Management
Prescribe and manage FDA-approved obesity medications, including:

Monitor medication effectiveness, side effects, and long-term outcomes while providing patient education regarding medication use.
Lifestyle Medicine
  • Provide individualized nutrition counseling
  • Develop exercise recommendations
  • Counsel patients on behavioral modification
  • Promote healthy sleep habits
  • Address stress management strategies
  • Encourage long-term lifestyle changes to support sustained weight loss

Body Composition & Metabolic Monitoring
  • Perform body composition assessments
  • Track weight, BMI, body fat percentage, and lean muscle mass
  • Review metabolic laboratory studies
  • Monitor treatment outcomes
  • Utilize objective measurements to guide clinical decisions

Diagnostic & Laboratory Evaluation
Order and interpret laboratory testing, including:
  • Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP)
  • Complete Blood Count (CBC)
  • Hemoglobin A1c
  • Lipid Panel
  • Thyroid Function Tests
  • Insulin Levels
  • Vitamin D
  • Vitamin B12
  • Iron Studies
  • Hormonal testing when clinically indicated

Patient Education
Educate patients regarding:
  • Healthy nutrition
  • Portion control
  • Physical activity
  • Medication adherence
  • Long-term weight maintenance
  • Disease prevention
  • Lifestyle modifications

Documentation
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Complete patient notes in accordance with organizational standards
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and payer documentation requirements
Qualifications
Required
  • Active Nevada APRN License
  • National Board Certification (FNP, AGNP, Adult NP, or Adult-Gerontology NP)
  • Current DEA Registration or eligibility to obtain
  • Current BLS Certification
  • Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)

Preferred
  • Experience in Medical Weight Loss
  • Experience in Obesity Medicine
  • Experience prescribing GLP-1 receptor agonists
  • Knowledge of obesity treatment guidelines
  • Experience counseling patients on nutrition and exercise
  • Experience interpreting metabolic laboratory testing
  • Experience with body composition analysis
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
