Job description

We are Proud to be SJE!

At SJE, we are more than a company — we are a family of brands with a shared vision and mission to provide industry-leading, innovative, and reliable control and monitoring solutions that improve efficiencies, protect the environment, and deliver dependable solutions to our valued customers. We are looking for an Electrical Control System Project Engineer to support our ICON brand. This role will be based in the Tampa Bay area and requires frequent travel throughout Florida. Some flexibility to work remotely from other locations within the state may be available.

Our ICON Technologies brand is a leading provider of low and medium-voltage Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and Solid-State Reduced Voltage Motor Control products. We provide sales, field support, and technical assistance in application, troubleshooting, and field upgrades for any brand of VFD or soft-start product. Check us out at Icon-tech.com or SJEinc.com!

The job:

As our Electrical Control Systems Project Engineer, you will support the design and delivery of engineered control panels, with a particular focus on highly engineered Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) systems for water and wastewater applications. You will be primarily responsible for developing engineered submittal packages and leading field start-up, commissioning, and customer training activities.

Every day, you will design engineered control panels using AutoCAD, review and interpret project specifications, and develop VFD and SCADA control systems. You will also create bills of materials and prepare the documentation required to manufacture control panels.

In this role, you will work closely with consulting engineers and contractors to clarify project requirements, obtain necessary information, and ensure alignment throughout the project. You will also support the start-up and commissioning of complete VFD systems and Rockwell PLC-based control systems.

The skills, education, and experience you need:

To succeed in this role, you must have:

  • Experience designing industrial control systems using AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of harmonic filtering technologies
  • Strong field troubleshooting experience with Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) systems
  • Hands-on electrical experience
  • Exceptional customer service and customer-facing communication skills
  • Experience preparing project takeoffs and quotation

A 4-year Electrical Engineering degree with 5-10 years of experience is preferred.

Answering your questions:

When you are considering a new job, it is normal to have a ton of questions. Here are a few questions we are asked all the time.

  • What is your Paid Time Off and holiday policy? Up to 120 hours of Paid Time Off in your first year plus 8 paid holidays.
  • What benefits do you offer? We offer a robust benefits package including health, life, short-term and long-term disability insurance as well as dental and vision programs you need to take care of your family, along with other benefit options. Check out our full benefits package!
  • What is my commute? Plug this address into Google Maps: 12956 N Dale Mabry Hwy, Tampa, FL 33618. Frequent travel is required.

We will answer more of your questions during the first interview. Expect to hear about the next steps if you meet the job requirements.
