Title: School Psychologist - Temporary Assignment

Position Type: 10 Month School Calendar, Temporary Assignment
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:45AM to 3:30PM
FLSA Status: Exempt
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Educational Specialist (ED.S), Ph.D, or Psy.D. in School Psychology
  2. Current, valid Pennsylvania Certification as School Psychologist
  3. Current, valid Pennsylvania License as Psychologist
  4. Minimum of three years' experience working with special education students
  5. Ability to engage intellectually and physically in all components of the educational process
  6. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all constituents (administrators, colleagues, students, parents, and others)
  7. Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary
  8. Ability to use computers and perform clerical skills at a proficient level

General Duties and Responsibilities
The School Psychologist promotes understanding of the developmental expectations and the special education and related services needs of the students attending The Vanguard School. The School Psychologist provides consultation and training designed to promote student learning and appropriate social-emotional functioning to faculty and staff, parents, and students. He/she offers recommendations for short-term and long-term remedial techniques and teaching strategies based on current and applicable research-based practices for special education and behavioral intervention.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Conducts re-evaluations for student special education eligibility as per State and Federal guidelines; writes and organizes re-evaluation reports; facilitates/participates in team meetings relevant to the re-evaluation process and student progress.
  2. Provides evidence-based therapeutic interventions for adolescents who present with a variety of social-emotional and behavioral challenges (including DSM-5 disorders) that negatively impact the student's learning experience, academic progress and overall participation in his/her educational program.
  3. Provides consultation to Vanguard School staff and parents to improve students' social-emotional and behavioral functioning that negatively impact the student's learning experience, academic progress and overall participation in his/her educational program.
  4. Participates in admissions interviews and pre-enrollment assessment of students applying to the Vanguard School. Reviews those applications and related materials about which the Supervisor of Admissions has questions regarding the appropriateness of the Vanguard school as an educational placement for the student.
  5. Assists in planning and presenting parent support and parent training programs pertinent to the needs of the students and the families in the VFES community.
  6. Assists in planning program wide activities designed to enhance the Vanguard School educational program.
  7. Promotes positive educational and behavioral health practices in resolving individual, group and system level problems of school-related educational and mental health concerns.
  8. Assists with mental health crises that may occur during the school day.
  9. Provides training to faculty and staff members in other disciplines to expand and enrich their knowledge in the areas of special education, developmental and clinical psychology, and behavioral programming.
  10. Demonstrate competency in each of the VFES core values: Communication and Listening, Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, Ethics, Professionalism, and Teamwork.
  11. Comply with all organizational policies and procedures including those stated in the VFES Policies & Procedures manual and additional verbal and written communications provided to staff members.
  12. Maintains a professional, confidential and ethical relationship with administrators, colleagues, parents, students and others at all times.
  13. Attends and actively participates in all faculty meetings, in-service meetings, and other meetings as required.
  14. Maintains professional development related to requirements of the position, including attendance at local and regional professional conferences, pertinent readings and participation in continuing education courses.
  15. Maintains proper certification and licensure for assignment and remains educationally informed in all related areas including PDE regulations and state/national standards through continued professional study and attending workshops and conferences.
  16. Performs related duties, special assignments and projects as assigned.
