Temporary Twic Card information

What is a temporary TWIC Card?

A Temporary TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Card is a short-term credential issued to eligible applicants who have completed the enrollment process for a standard TWIC card but need immediate access to secure maritime facilities or vessels. The temporary card allows individuals to begin working while waiting for their permanent TWIC card to be produced and mailed. Temporary TWIC cards are typically valid for a limited period, usually up to 30 days, and contain similar security features as the permanent card. They are intended to minimize disruptions for workers in the maritime industry who require access to secure areas. After the permanent card is received, the temporary card must be returned or destroyed.

What are the typical responsibilities of a temporary TWIC Card holder while working at a port facility?

As a Temporary TWIC Card holder, your primary responsibilities will often include gaining access to secure areas of maritime facilities and vessels to perform tasks such as cargo handling, equipment operation, or inspections. You will be expected to comply with strict security protocols, participate in safety briefings, and coordinate closely with port security personnel and other workers. Temporary status means you'll need to be especially vigilant about following all access requirements and promptly reporting any security concerns. Collaboration and clear communication are key, as you'll often work in fast-paced, regulated environments alongside diverse teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temporary TWIC Card holder, and why are they important?

To thrive in a temporary position requiring a TWIC Card, you need a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential, a clean background check, and basic knowledge of port or facility operations. Familiarity with security screening processes and compliance systems, such as access control software, is often required. Strong attention to detail, reliability, and good communication skills help ensure safety and efficient coordination on-site. These skills and qualifications are crucial for maintaining secure and regulated access in sensitive transportation environments.

What entry level jobs can you get with a temporary TWIC card?

A temporary TWIC card allows access to various entry-level jobs in transportation, shipping, and port operations, such as cargo handlers, warehouse workers, and security screeners. These roles often require basic safety training and security protocols, and the TWIC card is used to access secure areas in maritime and transportation facilities.

Job description

Class A Port Driver
$30/hr | Pomona, CA
AUTOMATIC TRUCKS, HOME DAILY.
MUST BE 100% GOOD WITH USING A PALLET JACK.
We are looking for a reliable Class A Port Driver with Hazmat endorsement for a specialized position operating out of our Pomona yard. You will be going to the ports of San Pedro, Long Beach, and San Diego. This is a temp-to-hire opportunity with a unique twist — non-traditional port work involving recyclable waste from cruise ships. You will pull it with a pallet jack to the back of the trailer as the team loads it.
Position Details:
  • Pay: $30.00/hr (no overtime, straight time only)
  • Schedule: 4-10 Schedule. Friday through Monday
  • Start Time ranges from 6 to 8am
  • Location: Pomona
  • Status: Temp-to-Hire
What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Picking up palletized USDA food waste from cruise ships
  • Loading pallets from the nose of trailer using an electric pallet jack
  • Transporting to recycling locations (e.g., Corridor Recycling in Long Beach)
  • Occasional drop-and-hook of sealed hospital waste trailers (no-touch)
What to Expect:
  • Strong odors – this is not standard port work
  • All PPE provided, including breathing mask
  • Once trained, expect up to 10-hour shifts
Requirements:
  • Minimum 2 years of verifiable Class A driving experience
  • Clean MVR – any violations must be explained
  • TWIC card required
  • Automatic restriction is OK.
  • No port experience required
  • Comfortable using an electric pallet jack
  • Professionalism and discretion are a must
If you're a dependable driver looking for steady work with local routes and specialized duties, this is a fantastic opportunity to join a dedicated team that values safety, reliability, and service.
