Job Description
Designs truss components and truss repairs for MiTek customers and creatively solve engineering issues our customers have. Expand upon existing standard details by providing calculation-based improvements and verified by physical testing if required. Research and test innovative new ways of using metal plate connected wood floor and/or roof trusses. This position reports to the Engineering Manager located in the office where the engineer is assigned.
Our program is a paid, 12-week program that will run from Monday, May 18th through Friday, August 7th. At MiTek, we embrace a hybrid work model that encourages innovation, collaboration, and connection. For internships that outside your current geographic location, we offer a $6,000 Intern Stipend to help cover your temporary housing and travel for the duration of the program

Essential Functions
  • Provide calculation-based improvements to existing standard engineering details.
  • Research and test new methods of using metal plate connected wood floor trusses.
  • Creatively Design field repairs for truss components in accordance with acceptable engineering principles and judgment.
  • Design truss components based on specified parameters from customers and use their knowledge of engineering and the building codes along with collaboration with other engineers in the office to ensure their designs protect the health safety and welfare of the public.
  • Discusses design modifications and reviews appropriate design methodologies with customers.
  • Assist, train and counsel customers in troubleshooting issues and design problems.
  • Review results of the truss design software for accuracy and collaborate with other engineers and with the software development team to determine how the software should function.
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects and building officials on customer component design projects.

Qualifications
  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree at an accredited college degree program in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering; expected to graduation date in Fall 2026 or Spring 2027 with potential to convert to full-time employment.
  • Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  • Ownership of one or more high priority projects that will assess your problem solving and leadership skills.
