We are looking to add new talent to our growing team! We are currently seeking a Staff Geochemist 2 to work in a technical support role with highly skilled professionals on diverse project teams in a dynamic environment. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing group and company and get involved in a variety of projects for a diverse range of clients. This is a full-time position located in our Midlothian, VA office.

In this role, you will provide geochemical support to large multidisciplinary project teams throughout the United States, primarily supporting energy clients. Your work will focus on the characterization and assessment of inorganic constituents in the environment while providing opportunities to address a broader range of environmental constituents. Responsibilities will include environmental sampling, field investigations, geochemical data reduction and modeling, conceptual site model development, technical reporting, and planning and executing geochemical field programs. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to H&A's emerging geochemical practice.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
In this position, you will:

  • Provide geochemical support to large multidisciplinary project teams throughout the US, focusing on the characterization and assessment of inorganic constituents in the environment.
  • Responsibilities will include collection of environmental samples, field investigations at mining and remediation sites, and substantial data reduction and modeling using tools such as PHREEQC and Geochemist's Workbench.
  • You may support field efforts about 30-40% of the time, including documentation of cores in-situ, mineralogic characterization, redox investigations, tracer studies, and drilling/well installation oversight.
  • You'll collaborate with H&A staff and project teams, summarize technical findings, manage and analyze environmental data, contribute to conceptual site models, and assist in the planning and execution of geochemical field programs.
  • Additional duties involve producing technical reports, memoranda, specifications, proposals, and supporting client objectives across a variety of environmental and mining projects.
  • All work must be performed in accordance with company and client health and safety protocols, as well as H&A's Guiding Principles and Code of Behavior.
  • Support energy-sector clients with the characterization and assessment of environmental constituents.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Minimum Skills and Requirements:

  • Minimum B.S. degree in Inorganic Geochemistry (Environmental Chemistry and other Geoscience degrees considered).
  • 2+ years of related experience.
  • Have a conceptual understanding of fate and transport mechanism for inorganic constituents in the environment.
  • Base knowledge of mineralogy and concepts of rock-forming minerals.
  • Foundational chemistry background.
  • Experience using PHREEQC and Geochemist's Workbench for geochemical data analysis and modeling.
  • Ability to convey observations and produce accurate, concise field notes, logs, data sheets, and reports, including for construction projects.
  • Experience planning, coordinating, and executing subsurface investigation and laboratory testing programs.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation, plus ability to travel for temporary work assignments.
  • Excellent organizational, written, verbal communication, and problem-solving skills; attention to detail.
  • Compile, reduce, analyze, visualize, manage, and report geochemical data, using data management software and other tools.
  • Positive attitude, self-motivation, strong work ethic, flexibility, and willingness to work with project teams in multiple geographies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team.
  • Work and schedule resources collaboratively with project teams.
  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of geochemical field investigation programs, including subsurface explorations and laboratory testing.
  • Strong computer literacy skills, including proficiency with MS Office software.
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs. unassisted.
  • Desire to learn and grow professionally, demonstrating ownership and resourcefulness.

Preferred Skills:

  • MS degree in Geochemistry, Environmental Chemistry, or related field.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training and MSHA training.
  • Python or other computer coding experience.
  • Interest or familiarity with geology, mineralogy, environmental remediation, and construction.
  • Experience at mining or legacy mining sites.
  • Experience with data visualization tools and advanced analytical platforms.

The salary range for this position in Midlothian, VA is 65,000 - 75,000 annually. Actual compensation will be based upon a variety of factors such as education, related work experience, certificates, skills, and current market conditions. Haley & Aldrich reviews salary ranges each quarter to assess competitiveness with the market.
