Job Title: Assembly Worker

Job Description

This role assembles metal parts by brazing and bonding components using a hand torch, following layouts, work orders, and blueprints. The assembly worker prepares, aligns, and secures work pieces, applies appropriate flux and brazing alloys, and operates brazing equipment safely and accurately to produce high-quality metal assemblies in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Braise and bond together metal components using a hand torch in accordance with layouts, work orders, and blueprints.
  • Align and clamp work pieces using rulers, squares, templates, fixtures, jigs, or vises to ensure precise positioning before brazing.
  • Clean joints and work pieces using a wire brush or by dipping them into cleaning solutions to prepare surfaces for brazing.
  • Select appropriate torch tips, flux, and brazing alloys based on data charts or work orders to meet job specifications.
  • Connect hoses from the torch to regulator valves and cylinders containing oxygen and specified fuel gases such as acetylene or natural gas.
  • Start gas flow, ignite the flame, and adjust gas pressure and mixture to achieve the desired flame size and color for proper brazing conditions.
  • Apply flux to joints by brushing it onto work pieces or dipping braze rods into flux to prevent oxidation of metal during heating.
  • Guide the torch and braze rod along joints or seams to heat work pieces to brazing temperature and melt the braze alloy to form strong bonds.
  • Inspect completed assemblies, equipment, structures, and materials to identify errors, defects, or other issues and take corrective action as needed.
  • Work efficiently on an assembly line, following production schedules and quality standards.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and basic welding techniques as needed to support assembly and production activities.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to ensure accurate assembly and wiring of components.
  • Perform basic soldering tasks on electronic or metal components when required.
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area to support safe and efficient operations.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum 1 year of welding experience when specific brazing experience is not available.
  • At least 2 years of experience using power and hand tools, including experience gained outside of prior employment.
  • Minimum 1 year of manufacturing experience.
  • Ability to perform brazing using a hand torch, including selecting appropriate torch tips, flux, and brazing alloys.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools in an assembly or production environment.
  • Experience with basic welding techniques in a manufacturing or similar setting.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and work orders.
  • Experience working on an assembly line, including handling packaging, production, and assembly tasks.
  • Basic soldering skills for working with electronics and metal components.
  • Ability to work with wiring and electronic assemblies when required.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify defects, errors, or equipment issues.
  • Capability to follow safety procedures and operate brazing and welding equipment safely.
