Job description

Tablet Coating Operator

Location: Dallas, TX 75238

Pay Rate: $26.00/hr

1st Shift: 5:00AM-3:30PM Monday-Friday

Position Summary

The Tablet Coating Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of coating equipment used in the manufacturing of high-quality tablet products. This role ensures coating processes are performed according to Batch Production Records (BPRs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs), and company quality standards.

The successful candidate will prepare coating solutions, operate coating equipment, monitor critical process parameters, complete production documentation, and work closely with Quality Assurance and Production teams to ensure products consistently meet customer specifications and regulatory requirements.

This is a safety-sensitive position requiring strict adherence to safety procedures, GMP standards, and proper operation of manufacturing equipment.

Key ResponsibilitiesProduction Operations
  • Operate tablet coating equipment and coating pans in accordance with approved operating procedures.

  • Prepare and mix coating solutions, including clear and colored coatings, according to production requirements.

  • Load tablet batches into coating equipment and monitor the coating process from startup through completion.

  • Monitor and adjust critical process parameters, including:

    • Inlet and outlet air temperatures

    • Airflow rates

    • Spray rates

    • Atomization air pressure

    • Pump calibration settings

    • Coating solution flow rates

  • Cool coated tablets upon completion of the coating cycle and perform polishing operations when required.

  • Discharge finished product into approved sanitary containers for further processing.

Quality & Compliance
  • Follow all Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and company policies.

  • Complete Batch Production Records (BPRs) and production logs accurately using Good Documentation Practices (GDP).

  • Coordinate with Quality Assurance to verify product appearance, disintegration times, and other quality specifications.

  • Obtain required quality approvals before releasing product to the next stage of production.

  • Monitor operations for process deviations, equipment malfunctions, and quality concerns and escalate issues as appropriate.

Equipment Operation & Maintenance
  • Clean and sanitize coating equipment, utensils, and production rooms according to approved cleaning procedures.

  • Perform basic equipment setup, inspection, and operational checks.

  • Assist with troubleshooting equipment and processing issues.

  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to safety, quality, and operational efficiency.

  • Demonstrate mechanical aptitude by assisting with equipment disassembly and reassembly as needed.

Safety & Teamwork
  • Follow all workplace safety policies and procedures.

  • Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including respirators and other protective gear.

  • Follow gowning procedures, hygiene requirements, and glove-changing protocols.

  • Work collaboratively with production, quality, and maintenance teams.

  • Maintain reliable attendance and contribute to a positive team environment.

QualificationsRequired Skills & Competencies
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • Ability to accurately follow written procedures and production instructions.

  • Basic mechanical aptitude with the ability to disassemble and reassemble production equipment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, food, or other GMP-regulated manufacturing environments.

  • Experience operating coating equipment or similar production machinery.

  • Familiarity with Batch Production Records (BPRs), SOPs, and GMP documentation requirements.

Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.

  • Previous pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, or manufacturing experience preferred.

  • Basic reading comprehension and mathematical skills required to follow production instructions and complete batch documentation accurately.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk on hard surfaces for extended periods, up to four hours at a time.

  • Ability to frequently bend, kneel, stoop, squat, turn, and reach throughout the workday.

  • Ability to remain standing and stationary for prolonged periods while monitoring equipment.

  • Ability to handle drums weighing up to 110 kg (242 lbs.) using proper material handling methods and equipment.

  • Ability to lift containers weighing up to 40 pounds.

  • Ability to intermittently hand-scoop materials weighing up to 5 pounds throughout the shift.

  • Ability to work in close proximity to equipment and read gauges, displays, and documentation accurately.

  • Ability to wear required PPE, including dust masks, half-face respirators, full-face respirators, gloves, safety glasses, and other protective equipment as required.
