Job Title: Surgical Technology Instructor

Job Description:
The Surgical Technology Instructor teaches and trains students in surgical technology. This includes providing theoretical and hands-on instruction in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings to prepare students for careers as surgical technologists.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and deliver a comprehensive course curriculum covering all aspects of surgical technology, including surgical procedures, instrumentation, aseptic technique, and patient care.
  • Teach both lecture-based and laboratory-based courses, demonstrating proper surgical techniques and equipment usage.
  • Supervise and evaluate students during clinical rotations in operating rooms and other healthcare facilities.
  • Assess student learning and performance through exams, skills assessments, and other evaluation methods.
  • Stay up-to-date on changes and advancements in surgical technology and adjust curriculum accordingly.
  • Maintain program accreditation standards and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • Participate in program planning, student advising, and other departmental activities.
  • Collaborate with clinical partners to provide students with relevant, high-quality training experiences.

Qualifications:
  • Certification, Associate's, or Bachelor's degree in Surgical Technology or a related healthcare field.
  • Minimum of 2 years or 4000 documented hours of recent experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist (NRST) with a current Certified Surgical Technologist (NRST) credential.
  • Strong teaching and communication skills, with the ability to effectively instruct both in the classroom and hands-on lab settings.
  • Keen attention to detail and ability to demonstrate complex surgical skills.
  • Commitment to student learning and success.
  • Knowledge of surgical technology curriculum standards and accreditation requirements.

General duties and responsibilities:
  • Oversee and maintain the safety of the students and the working environment.
  • Serve as a model for demonstrating correct surgical techniques and professional behavior.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with industry trends.
  • Communicate with the program coordinator/director concerning student needs and program improvements.
  • Obtain all required instructor credentials and renew them as needed.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
