Position: Surgery Patient Representative Assistant
Department: Surgery Waiting Room
Shift: 6:00 am-8:30 pm as needed, varied hours a week
Facility: Miami Valley Hospital

POSITION SUMMARY 
The Surgery Patient Representative Assistant is a member of the Department of Consumer Relations and provides services to the families and patients in the Surgery Waiting Lounge. The Patient Representative Assistant supports the surgeons and surgical staff in their needs related to the waiting area.
DIMENSION/SCOPE
The Surgery Patient Representative Assistant receives assignments, takes direction, and is responsible to the SWL/ICU Team Leader for the day-to-day operations of the Surgery Waiting Lounge. The assistant will be required to work flexible hours and staff the Surgery Waiting Lounge with the SWL/ICU Team Leader. They will be responsible for providing direction to the Surgery Waiting Lounge Volunteers.
Reports to the Administrative Manager. The assistant may, under certain circumstances, receive direction from the managers of Surgical Services and the Director of Volunteer Services. Handles material in a highly confidential manner. The Surgery Patient Representative Assistant is responsible for creating and maintaining a calm, quiet environment in the Surgery Waiting Lounge area, as well as promoting the flow of information between MVH staff and physicians and waiting family members.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School graduate.
Licensure: None
Certification: None
Experience: Experience with physicians, nursing staff, patients, and families is
highly desired.
Skills/Other: Demonstrated performance of outstanding customer service skills required. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to operate in a high-stress environment and manage multiple tasks while remaining focused on the overall delivery of service to consumers. Must be mature and able to deal with a broad range of people from a variety of economic and social levels, races, and cultures. Must possess strong oral skills and be able to interact with employees from all levels of the organization. Must demonstrate excellent telephone skills.
