Job description

Job Title: Senior Substation Engineering Lead
Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Substation Engineering Lead to spearhead the engineering and design of complex, large-scale electrical infrastructure projects. You will act as a technical authority, providing high-level guidance for substation design, grid stability, and capital project execution.
This is a senior-level position for an engineer who has mastered the technical fundamentals and is ready to take ownership of complex, multi-million dollar portfolios. You will manage projects from conceptual design through execution, serving as a primary mentor to junior staff and a key technical liaison for external vendors, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Project Management
• Project Oversight: Manage the full lifecycle of complex substation projects, including conceptual design, engineering analyses, and feasibility studies.
• Design Excellence: Resolve complex technical challenges through the application of advanced engineering principles. Lead project specifications, technical evaluations of contract bids, and design reviews.
• Mentorship: Provide leadership and coaching to technical teams. Facilitate knowledge transfer, act as an engineering mentor, and set technical direction for less-experienced team members.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
• Strategic Liaison: Serve as the technical authority when interfacing with external contractors, equipment vendors, and public agencies.
• Cross-Functional Support: Provide critical support to internal departments regarding land acquisition, permitting, and regulatory compliance.
• Operational Strategy: Collaborate with internal project teams and management to ensure project delivery meets safety, quality, and budgetary objectives.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Experience Baseline: Minimum of eight (8) years of cumulative experience in electrical engineering and substation design.
• Technical Mastery: Proven expertise in substation physical and/or protection/control design and the application of industry codes.
• Project Leadership: Demonstrated success in managing large-budget, complex infrastructure projects and cross-functional teams.
Preferred Attributes
• PE License: A current Professional Engineering (PE) license is highly preferred.
• Deep experience in the full spectrum of substation lifecycle, from planning to commissioning.
• Strong communication skills-you must be comfortable delivering technical presentations to senior leadership and representing the team to external public agencies.
