Job description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Carpenters may perform any combination of tasks to assist on the construction site.  This position performs a wide variety of duties and tasks that often require them to assist other trades people including laborers.

  • Construct, erect, install and repair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, metal and wallboard using hand tools and power tools.
  • Work with and install doors, hardware, trim, cabinetry, ceiling materials and millwork.
  • Specific tasks may include building rough wooden structures, such as concrete forms, scaffolds, tunnel and sewer supports and temporary frame shelters according to sketches, blueprints or verbal instructions.
  • Examining specifications to determine dimensions of structures and measuring boards, timbers or plywood using various tools.
  • Be proficient at sawing boards and plywood panels to required sizes, bracing forms in place with timbers, tie rods, and anchor bolts, and building framework to strengthen, protect or disguise buildings that are undergoing construction.
  • Erect scaffolding for buildings and install ladders, handrails, walkways, platforms and gangways, install rough frames and bracing them with boards nailed to framework, install subflooring in building, or weld parts to steel structural members.
  • Loading, unloading, and moving materials from within or near the construction site from pallets, skids, trucks, or other locations.
  • Driving equipment as needed
  • General partition layout
  • Partition framing and sheet rock installation
  • Rough carpentry work including in-wall blocking
  • Finish carpentry including installation of doors, frames, hardware and trim
  • Temporary protection including barricades, visqueen, floor protection, etc.
  • General clean-up including vacuuming, sweeping and rubbish removal
  • Ability to lift, squat, and pull up to 100 lbs. with frequency throughout the day
  • Selective demolition of non-load bearing walls, ceilings and flooring material and clean up of all demolition debris
  • Receive and handle any miscellaneous material deliveries
  • Installation and maintenance of safety handrails, covered openings, etc.
  • Supervision of subcontractor’s and shift work if directed by Pepper’s Project Foreman or Superintendent
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 4 years relevant experience in commercial construction preferred.
  • OSHA 10 preferred.
  • Operator's certificate preferred.
  • Detail-oriented, well-organized, and ability to multi-task.
  • Task-oriented, reliable, and committed to meeting deadlines.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexible availability, including some overtime, weekends, and night shifts.
