RANGE: Adjunct instructors are hired on a semester basis and are paid per lecture hour equivalent (LHE). Minimum (less than a masters) and Maximum (Doctorate).
DESCRIPTION
Antelope Valley College invites applications for our adjunct (Temporary, part-time) faculty applicant pool for the following Stagecraft Instructor.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Instruct students in the assigned discipline, such as but not limited to, Stagecraft,
Fundamentals of Lighting, and/or Technical Theatre Production.
• Assignment may include teaching courses during the day, evening, on-line courses and/or off
campus sites
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Any bachelor's degree or higher and two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience OR the equivalent.

  • Antelope Valley College Equivalency: Equivalency not needed, per faculty division

And a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students (tit. 5 § 53024.1).
Desirable Qualifications
  • Practical and collegiate instruction experience in stagecraft, lighting, and technical production courses.
  • Teach students to work as stage technicians and identify qualified students to serve as crew for productions. In addition, instruct students during crew work on productions and during the strike of the production.
  • Act as the Technical Director for the Theatre Arts Theatrical Production(s) during the semester of employment. Consult with faculty and staff in all areas relevant to the technical elements of the Theatre Arts program. These include (but are not limited to) budgeting and purchasing of equipment and materials for sets, props, and lighting.
  • Attend all production meetings and rehearsals as needed and participate in the technical and dress rehearsal process as well as all performances as the faculty representative of the technical side of the production.
  • Work as a team member with Producer, Director, and Designers of the production team as well as in close association with the AVC Performing Arts Theatre staff and crew.
  • Work closely with the Set and Lighting Designer(s) in assisting with the execution of set construction and lighting designs by guiding enrolled students throughout the production.
  • Coordinate with the AVC Performing Arts Theatre Technical Director for use of all Performing Arts spaces, including the Scene Shop and Stage areas and equipment.
  • Provide technical oversight, guidance, and training to student theatrical crew members in the proper use of tools and theater equipment, including lighting, props, and set construction, as well as basic theater practices, techniques, and work standards.
