Job description

Creative Engagement Solutions, LLC (CES) is looking for a versatile Software Engineer to help build and maintain the web applications, learning systems, data tools, and internal platforms that support our public sector clients. As a Software Engineer at CES, you will contribute across the full stack, partnering with subject matter experts, instructional designers, and project managers to ship work that holds up under government scrutiny. If you are a curious, adaptable, and detail-oriented engineer who values shipping maintainable code over chasing the newest framework, we would love to meet with you! We are looking to hire for this position before the end of July.

The Software Engineer will contribute to architecture and implementation, code review, technical documentation, accessibility engineering, and ongoing maintenance of both client-facing and internal systems. Day-to-day work spans web applications, dashboards, data integrations, custom learning platforms, and supporting tooling across multiple concurrent contracts.

You must:

  • Be a motivated, self-starter who takes initiative and meets deadlines.
  • Be highly organized and able to manage your own time across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Be able to effectively explain technical decisions to non-developers.
  • Be comfortable reading and extending unfamiliar codebases without rewriting everything.
  • Write maintainable, well-documented code.
  • Be able to track and report on works in progress, accomplishments, and completed projects.
  • Ship incremental, reviewable work.
  • Live in the D.C. Metro Area or open to relocation

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • A minimum of five years' work experience in software development or an impressive portfolio (please provide your GitHub).
  • Strong in at least two of: Python (Django, Flask, or FastAPI), Node.js with TypeScript, modern JavaScript (ES6+).
  • Front-end experience with HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and a current framework (React, Vue, or similar).
  • SQL and pragmatic database design (PostgreSQL preferred).
  • REST API design.
  • Git fluency, including branching workflows, code review, and clean commit history.
  • Accessibility implementation experience: Section 508 and WCAG 2.0 AA, ARIA, semantic HTML, keyboard navigation, and screen-reader testing.
  • Must be Local to the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area.

Skills that set you apart:

  • Scrum Certification(s).
  • Public-sector or government project experience.
  • Data visualization and dashboarding experience.
  • eLearning standards and LMS or LCMS experience.
  • Authentication patterns: SAML, OAuth, OIDC, SSO integration.
  • Cloud hosting fluency.
  • DevOps basics: Docker, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code.
  • Knowledge/experience with Adobe Creative Cloud Suite for cross-team collaboration with our design staff.

Please submit your resume and a link to your portfolio and/or relevant work (if applicable).
