Job description

Tyto Athene is searching for a Senior Software Engineer - Temporary. As a member of a small, highly collaborative software development team, you’ll work closely with software engineers and planetary scientists to create intuitive, high-performance applications used by researchers around the world. Your software will support the analysis of data from current and future NASA missions, helping scientists better understand Mars, Titan, Venus, and other destinations throughout our solar system.

Are you excited about building modern web applications that enable scientific discovery? Join our team supporting NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, where you’ll help develop cutting-edge web-based tools that allow scientists to visualize, analyze, and explore data returned from planetary missions.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain modern web applications for scientific data visualization and analysis.
  • Develop robust, responsive user interfaces using Angular and TypeScript.
  • Create interactive visualizations for scientific datasets, including plots, spectra, images, and mission data products.
  • Collaborate directly with scientists and engineers to translate scientific requirements into intuitive software solutions.
  • Design and integrate RESTful APIs and backend data services.
  • Participate in software architecture, code reviews, automated testing, and continuous integration activities.
  • Contribute technical ideas and innovative solutions within a small, agile development team.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript.
  • Experience developing modern web applications using Angular.
  • Strong understanding of HTML5, CSS, and responsive web design.
  • Experience working with RESTful APIs.
  • Experience using Git for source code management.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Although we use some AI, applicant should have the ability write code without depending AI.

Desired:

  • At least 7 years of professional experience.
  • Familiarity with NASA processes and procedures.
  • Familiarity with developing and administering cloud-based (AWS) solutions.
  • Ability to design and deliver effective training for specialized software application usage.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Experience developing scientific or engineering applications.
  • Familiarity with Highcharts or other interactive data visualization libraries.
  • Experience with Angular Material, RxJS, and responsive UI design.
  • Experience with Node.js and backend web services.
  • Experience developing data-intensive or analytical web applications.
  • Interest in planetary science, Earth science, astronomy, or scientific research.

Compensation:

  • Compensation is unique to each candidate and relative to the skills and experience they bring to the position. The salary range for this position is typically between $150,000-$180,000. This does not guarantee a specific salary as compensation is based upon multiple factors such as education, experience, certifications, and other requirements, and may fall outside of the above-stated range.

Benefits:

  • Highlights of our benefits include Health/Dental/Vision, 401(k) match, Paid Time Off, STD/LTD/Life Insurance, Referral Bonuses, professional development reimbursement, and parental leave.
