What is a temporary software developer?

Temporary Software Developers are professionals hired on a short-term basis to design, develop, test, and maintain software applications for a company or project. They typically work on specific assignments, such as filling in for permanent staff, addressing urgent project needs, or providing specialized skills for a limited period. Their contracts usually have fixed durations, and they may work independently or as part of a team. Temporary roles offer flexibility for both employers and developers, but may not include the same benefits as permanent positions.

What does a temporary software developer do?

A temporary software developer works on a freelance or contract basis. Your duties focus on the development, design, and testing of software programs. You may have a different set of responsibilities depending on the details of each project, such as working with computer code to develop programs or create a mobile application. A temporary software developer can work on one facet of a project, such as testing or coding a specific process. Developers sometimes specialize in working with one computer language, although knowledge of multiple coding languages is beneficial in this career.

What types of projects and responsibilities can a temporary software developer expect during a typical assignment?

As a Temporary Software Developer, you will often be brought in to support ongoing projects, address backlog tasks, or assist during periods of increased workload. Your responsibilities may include writing and testing code, debugging existing applications, and collaborating with permanent team members to meet tight deadlines. You may also be involved in documentation and code review processes, and your ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and workflows will be highly valued. The work environment is typically fast-paced, and clear communication with both developers and project managers is important to ensure a smooth integration into the team.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temporary software developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Temporary Software Developer, you need strong programming skills, familiarity with software development life cycles, and a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Proficiency with coding languages (such as Python, Java, or JavaScript), version control systems like Git, and project management tools is typically required. Adaptability, quick learning, and effective communication are essential soft skills to integrate into new teams and projects swiftly. These skills enable a Temporary Software Developer to contribute efficiently, deliver quality code under tight timelines, and support the organization's short-term technical needs.

    Job Title
Quality Assurance Engineering - Sr Professional II
    Position Summary
As a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET), you will design, build, and maintain a comprehensive automated testing infrastructure for the Finxact Experience platform. You will work closely with our QA leadership, engineering teams, and product stakeholders to ensure robust end-to-end, API, regression, and performance test coverage. This role is hands-on and technical: you build test frameworks, write automation code, execute performance testing, and drive continuous improvement in our testing infrastructure. You bring both coding expertise and deep domain knowledge of banking workflows, enabling you to write tests that catch not just broken builds, but actual business logic issues. You will play a critical role in ensuring every release meets our quality bar.
    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Design and develop scalable end-to-end and API/integration test automation frameworks integrated into our CI/CD pipelines (Docker, Kubernetes, GitLab), using industry-standard tools like Cypress, Playwright, or similar frameworks
    • Build and maintain comprehensive regression test suites for Finxact user experience, artificial intelligence, and related services, catching broken functionality and business logic regressions
    • Design and execute performance and load testing strategies to validate system behavior under stress, using tools like JMeter, Gatling, or similar, and reporting on performance bottlenecks
    • Develop automated testing scripts for user workflows across the platform, leveraging your understanding of software development and core banking workflows to write meaningful tests
    • Collaborate with engineering teams to troubleshoot automation failures, debug inconsistent tests, and drive root cause analysis toward systemic improvements
    • Maintain and evolve test data strategies and fixtures to support comprehensive test coverage across multiple software development and core banking scenarios
    • Participate in agile ceremonies and contribute to continuous improvement of our testing processes
    • Share testing best practices and patterns with the development team, contributing to a quality-first culture
    Desired Education and Experience
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience
    • 3+ years of professional software development experience with hands-on test automation and SDET responsibilities
    • 2+ years of experience building end-to-end test automation for modern web applications (Cypress, Playwright, Selenium) with demonstrated proficiency in JavaScript or TypeScript
    • 2+ years of experience with API/integration testing, RESTful services, and tools like Postman or similar
    • Strong programming skills with the ability to write clean, maintainable test code
    • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and modern DevOps tooling
    • Demonstrated experience with test frameworks and testing best practices
    • Experience with performance or load testing
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders
    • Attention to detail with the ability to think critically about edge cases and failure modes
    • Self-motivated team player comfortable in a fast-paced, agile environment
    Preferred Qualifications
    • 3+ years of experience in banking or financial services, with understanding of core banking workflows (payments, accounts, lending, compliance)
    • Hands-on experience with Cypress framework
    • Experience with JavaScript, React, and/or Go development
    • Hands-on experience with performance testing tools (JMeter, Gatling, or similar)
    • Familiarity with GitLab, Jira, and Confluence
    • Exposure to Kubernetes and container orchestration
