Job description

Duties As a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (TITLE 32), WG-8852-12, you will act as the Aircraft Mechanic (Crew Chief) with responsibility for managing the operational readiness of one or more aircraft, and proficiency training of supported aviation unit personnel. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list: * Manage, monitor or perform overall maintenance, servicing, inspections and documentation for one or more highly technical, high performance military aircraft. * Perform work in complex conditions under time and/or mission constraints to include all weather and night operations.

* Participate in mission preparation and recovery operations. * Expedite aircraft operations to include concurrent servicing, refueling, and/or reconfiguration of equipment for changes in operational missions. * Perform preflight, thru flight, and post-flight inspections and scheduled or unscheduled maintenance.

* Servs as the technical authority to identify and advise on requirements for airframe, mechanical, electrical/environmental, avionics, engine, and pneudraulic repairs on assigned aircraft. * Work closely with maintenance supervisor(s) and production control personnel to report and maintain current aircraft status. * Control and perform work assignments based upon priorities, workload, availability of parts, facilities, material and personnel.

* Make diagnoses and solves malfunctions of aircraft systems and components by utilizing a wide variety of complex, state of the art computerized and/or non-computerized Test Measurement Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE); by studying layout drawings, blueprints and wiring diagrams; and analyzing specifications and operating characteristics of aircraft and their components. * Provide technical guidance and assistance to flight crews regarding observed discrepancies, experienced in-flight characteristics and system malfunctions. * Perform in-process and final inspection of others' work on assigned aircraft and components and certifies by signature adherence to work procedures and quality standards established by applicable publications.

* Make decisions on a wide range of matters to ensure assigned aircraft is in the highest state of readiness and that maintenance performed is in accordance with the highest standards of safety, quality and technical compliance. Requirements Conditions of employment * IAW The Fair Chance Act, Agency employees may not request criminal history information at the point of initial application, upon receipt of an application, or prior to, during or after a job interview. * This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement. This is required prior to the effective date of placement. * Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. * May be required to successfully complete a trial period. * This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968.

An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. * Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day. * Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.

* Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. Qualifications AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence: * The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.

* The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees. * The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible. * The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership.

* The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens. Military Grades: Enlisted - Minimum rank SPC, maximum rank SGT.

UH-60 Blackhawk and/or UH-72 Lakota qualified SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : WG-12 Level MUST possess specialized experience for the WG-12 Level which, in addition to journey-level experience or training equivalent to or exceeding the WG-10 grade level, positions at this grade level may include performing duties as a dedicated crew chief; responsibility for performing, coordinating, and/or overseeing the work and any periodic inspections to be done on an aircraft whether it is alone, or with the assistance of other mechanics and/or workers; coordinating the work of other journey-level workers in other trades to work simultaneously on the aircraft; serving as the technical authority to advise on, examine, and approve all airframe, mechanical, electrical, and pneudraulic repairs of assigned aircraft. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
