About the Role

As a Food Safety & Quality Assurance Technician, you will be playing a key role in implementing an effective food safety and quality assurance system.  Reporting to the FSQA Supervisor, you will work closely with the Production, Sanitation, and Warehouse teams to uphold our  FSQA standards at the plant. This will involve quantitative measurements, environmental and product sampling, inspection of incoming raw materials and observation of the production process.

What you will be doing:

  • Complete process monitoring activities and maintain accurate reports and records (ex. GMP records, temp logs);
  • Perform pre and post-operation and sanitation monitoring of the food processing environment and equipment;
  • Coordinate and support the activities of Quality Control Associates and Jr. Quality Control Associates who are responsible for completing monitoring activities;
  • Complete record verifications and on-site observations of critical food safety control processes;
  • Deliver FSQA training to new and existing associates;
  • Conduct pathogen testing sampling and environmental monitoring swabbing/testing;
  • Perform equipment calibration verification
  • Maintain clear and concise communication with multiple teams including Operations, Procurement, and Sanitation;
  • Uphold HelloFresh's protocol for achieving the highest level of food safety and quality assurance.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S acts and regulations. 
  • Use personal protective and safety equipment and clothing as directed by the employer and report workplace hazards and dangers to the supervisor or employer.
  • Other duties as assigned

At a minimum, you have: 

  • Post-secondary education in Biological, Chemical or Food Sciences or equivalent experience;
  • Minimum 2 years of experience  in a food safety or quality assurance role in the food, cosmetic or other regulated industry;
  • Strong understanding of HACCP principles, the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations and GFSI schemes;
  • Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, varying shifts and holiday work, as required;
  • Willing and able to work in a dynamic environment, which can include warm/humid or cold temperatures;
  • Willing and able to push, pull, and lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to prioritize, remain calm and alert while multitasking in a fast-paced and deadline oriented environment;
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment, in addition to having strong interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to communicate in English, both verbal and written;
  • Strong organizational, analytical, communication and leadership skills;
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Suite (Calendar, Gmail, Docs, Sheets) and video conferencing (Hangouts, Google Meet);
  • Team player who is comfortable collaborating with other departments but also working independently;
  • Level 1 First Aid is considered an asset;
