The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a temporary full-time Genetic Counselor / Clinical Instructor (HS). The successful candidate will: Oversee the development, implementation and the maintenance of the prenatal genetic counseling services.
Provide the obstetrical genetic risk assessments in collaboration with the Antenatal Testing Unit Director.
Facilitate the genetic testing process, which includes obtaining the informed consent and disclosing the results to the patients for compliance measures.
Provide the patients and the referring providers with the genetic testing results which include the risk estimates and recommendations.
Collaborate and coordinate the patient care with the providers.
Function as the liaison between the Antenatal Testing Unit and the genetic testing laboratories to address the test orders.
Follow procedures and policies for adherence to the directives of the genetic counseling services for patients at a state-funded inner city hospital.
Keep abreast of the developments in genetics and genomics for compliance measures.
Attend applicable meetings and conferences.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Board eligible or Board certified Genetic Counselor, preferably with 3+ years of genetic counseling experience.
- Must have the ability to function independently with minimal oversight and communicates, advises, writes, and consults in a professional manner.
- Must demonstrate good decision-making and judgement skills.
