Job description

A global professional services association seeks an experienced Commercial Contracts Attorney on a temporary basis to join their legal team. The assignment is expected to last at least three months, with the potential to be extended. The position is hybrid in New York City: three days onsite; two days remote. The hourly rate is $55-$65, plus benefits.
Primary Duties

The Commercial Contracts Attorney will provide domestic and international legal counsel on a variety of agreements, including licensing, IT, consulting, and publishing to support the daily operations of a global science and technology non-profit, while also helping to preserve its non-profit status. Additional duties include:

  • Advise on domestic and international commercial legal matters
  • Structure, negotiate, and draft a variety of general and specialized agreements (e.g., licensing, IT, consulting, electronic publishing)
  • Provide legal counsel while supporting the non-profit status of the organization
  • Review and revise contracts using a standard internal template library
  • Support departments including marketing, publishing, education, and technical conferences
  • Assist in implementing legal tech tools such as contract management systems
  • Deliver internal training on commercial law and contract matters
  • Collaborate on broader legal projects as needed

Requirements

  • JD from an accredited law school; active member of a U.S. bar
  • 2–4 years of relevant experience in commercial contract law (in-house or law firm)
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, and legal advisory skills
  • Experience handling high volumes of contracts with precision
  • Knowledge of non-profit legal considerations is a plus
  • Science/technical undergraduate background preferred but not required
