Schulenburg Regency is seeking a dedicated, organized, and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to serve as our Infection Preventionist (IP).

The Infection Preventionist plays a critical role in protecting the health and safety of our residents, visitors, and staff through infection surveillance, prevention, education, regulatory compliance, and quality improvement initiatives.

This position works closely with the Administrator, Director of Nursing, Medical Director, and interdisciplinary team to maintain a culture of safety while ensuring compliance with CMS, Texas Health & Human Services, OSHA, and CDC guidelines.


Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and oversee the facility's Infection Prevention and Control Program.
  • Conduct ongoing infection surveillance and analyze infection trends.
  • Identify healthcare-associated infections and implement appropriate interventions.
  • Investigate communicable disease outbreaks and coordinate response efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with CMS F880 Infection Prevention and Control regulations.
  • Maintain NHSN reporting and other required infection reporting systems.
  • Track multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs), COVID-19, influenza, RSV, C. difficile, and other reportable infections.
  • Monitor antibiotic stewardship activities in collaboration with the Medical Director and Pharmacy Consultant.
  • Perform routine infection control rounds throughout the facility.
  • Monitor hand hygiene, PPE compliance, isolation precautions, and environmental cleaning practices.
  • Educate staff on infection prevention practices during orientation and ongoing in-services.
  • Review laboratory reports, physician orders, and resident records to identify potential infections.
  • Collaborate with nursing leadership regarding resident isolation, transmission-based precautions, and infection prevention interventions.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) meetings.
  • Prepare reports for Infection Control Committee meetings.
  • Assist with survey preparation and serve as a resource during state and federal surveys.
  • Maintain required documentation, policies, and procedures related to infection prevention.
  • Stay current with CDC, CMS, OSHA, and Texas HHS infection prevention guidance.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness planning related to infectious disease outbreaks.
  • Administrative on call rotation
Requirements:QualificationsRequired
  • Current Texas RN or LVN license in good standing.
  • Minimum of one year of nursing experience.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Excellent communication and teaching abilities.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.
Preferred
  • Long-term care or skilled nursing experience.
  • Infection Preventionist experience.
  • Completion of CDC Infection Prevention training or willingness to complete within required timeframe.
  • Knowledge of CMS Long-Term Care regulations.
  • Experience with QAPI and regulatory surveys.
  • Wound care experience is a plus.
