Job Description
Position Overview
The Director, Credit Risk Management will report to the Senior Vice President – Risk Management and Settlements and will have enterprise accountability for the design, governance, and execution of the Company’s credit risk framework for Invenergy’s largest collaborators – from suppliers delivering to our development organization to bilateral trading counterparties for our market hedging activities for Invenergy’s operating portfolio. To do so, the Director will lead and develop a high-performing credit risk organization, establishing standards, delegating authority and ensuring consistent, disciplined execution of counterparty risk assessments, credit adjudication and managing margin call activity with trading counterparties and wholesale power markets. The Director will lead the organization of data insights to internal stakeholders and senior leadership, monitor emerging industry trends and serve as primary credit risk representative in contract approval processes. As a senior member of the Risk Management team, Director will partner with and advise senior leaders from Invenergy’s development, procurement, project management and trading teams influencing commercial structures, contract terms, and counterparty strategy in accordance with Invenergy’s risk policies and serve as escalation point for material counterparty risk decisions.
Responsibilities:
-
Own and evolve Invenergy’s credit risk management policies, ensuring alignment with portfolio growth, market conditions, regulatory requirements, and enterprise risk tolerance; sponsor policy enhancements as necessary.
-
Lead, develop, and scale the Credit Risk Management function, including succession planning, talent development, role design, and capacity planning to support Invenergy’s long-term strategic growth.
-
Provide oversight and approval of counterparty credit risk assessments, including complex or high‑exposure counterparties, establishing adjudication standards and escalation protocols across the credit risk organization.
-
Establish and maintain governance over credit risk data, systems, and controls, including accountability for data integrity within energy trading and risk management systems used for exposure monitoring and reporting.
-
Direct the development and delivery of portfolio-level credit risk reporting, including dashboards, watchlists, and executive summaries provided to senior management and governance committees.
-
Oversee enterprise-wide monitoring of counterparty credit exposure, collateral postings, and credit limits, serving as the primary escalation point for material exposure concerns and risk mitigation actions.
-
Set standards for communication of credit decisions, risk assessments, and contractual security requirements, ensuring consistent, timely, and transparent engagement with internal stakeholders and external counterparties.
-
Maintain accountability for margining and collateral management practices, including oversight of margin call processes with bilateral trading counterparties and wholesale energy markets.
-
Monitor market dynamics, regulatory developments, and counterparty risk trends across Invenergy’s multi‑national footprint, translating external developments into actionable risk insights and strategic recommendations.
-
Provide senior leadership oversight of industry-wide vendor and counterparty benchmarking, including preparation and review of approval materials supporting significant credit decisions.
-
Lead credit-related aspects of enabling agreement negotiations, setting strategy for credit provisions and coordinating closely with Trading and Legal to ensure alignment with risk policy and commercial objectives.
-
Ensure enterprise compliance with Credit Risk, Risk Management, and related policies, embedding controls and accountability throughout credit risk operations.
-
Report regularly to the Energy Risk Management Committee and other governance bodies on credit risk posture, emerging risks, policy effectiveness, and recommended actions; sponsor and defend proposed policy changes as needed.
Required Skills:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, or a related field; advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., MBA, CFA) preferred.
-
10+ years of progressive experience in credit risk management, or related disciplines, including demonstrated leadership responsibility within a complex, capital‑intensive or trading‑oriented environment.
-
Extensive experience in credit analysis and credit risk management within the energy or related industries, with a deep understanding of industry trends impacting Invenergy’s development, supply chain, and trading activities.
-
Expert‑level understanding of counterparty credit risk, including financial statement analysis, exposure modeling, collateral structures, and credit limit frameworks.
-
Significant experience within the energy industry, including participation in U.S. and/or global wholesale power markets and prior work in a trading environment utilizing an ETRM platform (e.g., Allegro).
-
Strong working knowledge of ISO/RTO credit policies, tariffs, and collateral requirements applicable to power generation and trading market participants, including awareness of pending or evolving tariff initiatives.
-
Demonstrated understanding of market risk associated with gas and power trading, including mark‑to‑market exposure monitoring, margining practices, and collateral logistics.
-
Substantial contract experience with industry‑standard agreements, including ISDAs, NAESBs, and EEIs, with the ability to assess and negotiate credit‑related provisions in partnership with Legal and Commercial teams.
-
Advanced analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to interpret, challenge, and synthesize complex data into executive‑level insights and recommendations.
-
Strong proficiency in Excel and financial modeling, with demonstrated experience overseeing or reviewing models used for exposure analysis, stress testing, and risk reporting.
-
Experience establishing standards and governance over credit risk data, reporting, and systems, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and auditability.
-
Proven people leader with experience in talent development, succession planning, and building scalable teams to support organizational growth.
-
Strong executive communication and influencing skills, with the ability to clearly articulate risk assessments, recommendations, and trade‑offs to senior leadership and governance committees.
-
Demonstrated ownership mindset and sound professional judgment, with a track record of driving continuous improvement, process enhancement, and disciplined execution.
-
Highly organized and strategic thinker, capable of prioritizing across competing demands while designing and implementing effective risk management processes.
-
Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision, while effectively collaborating across functions in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment.
-
