Job description

Job Summary

The MuleSoft Developer (API Integration Specialist) is responsible for designing, developing, deploying, and supporting APIs and integrations using the MuleSoft Anypoint Platform. The role ensures solutions are scalable, secure, compliant, and aligned with CMS interoperability standards, including HL7 FHIR.

Key Responsibilities

API Design & Development

  • Design and develop RESTful APIs using MuleSoft Anypoint Studio.
  • Implement API-led connectivity (System, Process, and Experience APIs).
  • Develop Mule flows using DataWeave, connectors, error handling, and custom components.
  • Create reusable integration patterns and shared assets.
  • Design and implement API-led connectivity solutions (System, Process, and Experience APIs). 
  • Develop and maintain Mule applications using Anypoint Studio and Anypoint Code Builder. 
  • Build robust data transformations using DataWeave 2.0 for complex enterprise data models. 
  • Develop and execute automated tests using MUnit to ensure reliability and regression safety. 
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines using Maven, Git, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or equivalent tooling. 
  • Publish and manage reusable APIs, connectors, templates, fragments, and traits in Anypoint Exchange. 
  • Optimize performance, scalability, and error handling for mission-critical integrations. 
  • Design and develop System, Process, and Experience APIs using MuleSoft 

Platform Administration & Governance:

  • Administer and maintain MuleSoft Anypoint Platform environments across Sandbox, QA, and Production using CloudHub 2.0 and/or hybrid runtimes. 
  • Configure and manage Runtime Manager, API Manager, Exchange, and Design Center. 
  • Enforce API governance using security and traffic policies (OIDC/OAuth 2.0, rate limiting, IP allowlists, SLA tiers). 
  • Manage secrets, certificates, and credentials using Anypoint Security, vault integrations, and enterprise security standards. 
  • Configure Business Groups, Environments, and RBAC to support secure, scalable team collaboration. 
  • Monitor platform health and performance using Anypoint Monitoring and Visualizer, creating alerts and dashboards for proactive incident response. 
  • Ensure compliance, auditability, and operational readiness of integration and AI-enabled workloads. 

API Gateway & Management

  • Deploy APIs to CloudHub or on-prem runtimes.
  • Configure policies for OAuth 2.0, JWT, rate limiting, throttling, logging, and monitoring.
  • Manage APIs using MuleSoft API Manager.
  • Ensure API versioning, lifecycle management, and governance.

Data Integration & Transformation

  • Transform and map data using DataWeave.
  • Integrate with databases, message queues, and external systems.
  • Support event-driven and near real-time data exchanges.
  • Validate data accuracy, integrity, and error handling.

Security & Compliance

  • Ensure APIs comply with CMS, HIPAA, FISMA, NIST, and FedRAMP requirements.
  • Implement encryption, authentication, and authorization standards.
  • Support vulnerability remediation and security audits.
  • Participate in ATO and compliance documentation activities.

Testing, Deployment & Support

  • Develop unit and integration tests for Mule applications.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments.
  • Monitor APIs and troubleshoot production issues.
  • Collaborate with QA, DevSecOps, and SRE teams.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 1+ years of experience in MuleSoft development.
  • Hands-on experience with MuleSoft Any point Platform.
  • Strong experience with REST APIs, JSON, XML, and integration patterns.
  • Proficiency in DataWeave.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting CMS or federal healthcare IT programs.
  • Familiarity with HL7 FHIR healthcare standards.
  • Experience with Kafka or event streaming platforms.
  • Cloud experience (AWS preferred).
  • MuleSoft certifications (Developer Level 1 or 2).
