Job description

Job Title: Software Developer II (Python API & Enterprise Integration)
Role Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and results-driven Software Developer II to support the development, integration, and documentation of a critical data processing platform. In this role, you will contribute directly to the design, implementation, testing, and documentation of application programming interfaces (APIs) that enable seamless data exchange between core data platforms and enterprise IT systems.
This is a specialized, dual-focus role requiring both strong Python software engineering capabilities and rigorous Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) documentation skills. You will work closely with digital science, engineering, and IT stakeholders to deliver production-ready code while maintaining pristine technical documentation, test plans, and release procedures. If you excel at building scalable APIs and translating complex system architectures into clear documentation, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
Software Development & API Delivery
• API Engineering: Design, develop, test, and deploy robust RESTful APIs to support enterprise data platform integrations.
• Python Development: Build scalable, maintainable, and production-ready software components utilizing Python and modern software engineering best practices.
• System Integration: Collaborate with technical stakeholders to define API requirements, data exchange contracts, and workflow integration patterns.
• Version Control: Manage codebases using Git version control, adhering to professional branching, merging, and code review standards.
SDLC Documentation & Quality Assurance
• Technical Writing: Author and maintain comprehensive, SDLC-compliant documentation, including system requirement specs, functional designs, API documentation, and user guides.
• Validation & Testing: Develop and execute test plans, validation documentation, and deployment/release procedures.
• Project Tracking: Maintain project artifacts, task trackers, and team wikis utilizing collaboration tools such as JIRA and Confluence.
Knowledge Transfer & Collaboration
• Cross-Functional Partnership: Participate in sprint planning, technical reviews, and project syncs with distributed engineering and business stakeholders.
• Handoff & Transition: Build and maintain technical knowledge repositories, conducting formal knowledge transfer sessions and handoff materials prior to project completion.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics, Data Science, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience Baseline: Minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant professional software engineering experience.
• Technical Proficiency:
oStrong proficiency in Python software development.
oProven experience designing, developing, and consuming RESTful APIs.
oWorking knowledge of relational databases and SQL queries.
oExperience integrating applications with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, Databricks).
oFamiliarity with source code management via Git.
• Documentation & Compliance: Proven track record of authoring clear technical specifications, test plans, and SDLC-compliant documentation for production software applications.
• Core Competencies: Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills; strong proficiency with JIRA and Confluence.
Preferred Attributes
• Experience supporting scientific, research, or data-intensive enterprise applications.
• Familiarity with enterprise application integration patterns and data processing pipelines.
• Background working within regulated, compliance-sensitive industries (e.g., life sciences, biotech, pharmaceuticals, or healthcare).
