Zions Bancorporation's Enterprise Technology and Operations (ETO) team is transforming what it means to work for a financial institution. With a commitment to technology and innovation, we have been providing our community, clients and colleagues the best experience possible for over 150 years. Help us transform our workforce of the future, today.
We are seeking an Engineering Manager for Server Operating Systems to join Zions Bancorporation. The OS Platform Manager plays a key role in our infrastructure team and broader technology organization.
You will work with infrastructure leaders and engineers, Enterprise Architects, Information Security teams, banking system owners, and other technology stakeholders to support and deliver mission-critical compute services as we transition from traditional on-prem to cloud platform engineering. You will cultivate partnerships with architecture and engineering practices to evolve our capabilities in areas like cloud server platform engineering, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), system resiliency, and automation.
As a manager, you will be responsible for overseeing employee performance and development for your staff. You will establish, monitor, and ensure achievement of department goals and objectives. You will set and participate in formal Performance Goals and Objectives and Key Results (OKRs), and ensure proper documentation of policies and procedures for operational and regulatory requirements. Responsible to hire, fire, and perform other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead the team in support of critical business functions to meet organizational objectives, demonstrating a proven ability to drive execution across complex infrastructure initiatives.
  • Guide and accelerate the team's shift from traditional on-premise server management to modern, cloud-native platform engineering, leveraging Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles and automation.
  • Ensure the solutions meet the requirements of all stakeholders including business, technology, risk, and operations, with a secure, accurate, available, and compliant technology solution.
  • Direct platform engineering for core operating systems (Linux, Windows), ensuring business fit and partnering with architecture teams for non-functional elements of platform implementation.
  • Ensure the platform team has the needed technical skills, competencies, business domain expertise, process knowledge, industry sector knowledge, and capacity to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
  • Manage vendor relationships, ensuring the vendors' performance and contributions align with organizational objectives and strategy.
  • Manage the total cost of ownership of the platform including compute infrastructure, software/licensing, FTE and contractors, and professional services.
  • Serve as de facto Product Owner/Project Manager (POPM) through an Agile/Kanban-style value delivery system.

Education/Experience, Skills, and Abilities
Note: a combination of education and experience may meet requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related degree.
  • 6+ years' experience working with server operating systems (e.g., RHEL, Windows Server), cloud server platform engineering (e.g., GCP, AWS), and modern IaC concepts (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; must be able to communicate effectively with senior business and technical management, vendors, and team members.
  • Experience interacting with technology vendors, including contract analysis and OS license management.
  • Organizing team artifacts, projects, and work queues.
  • Producing, publishing, and distributing operational reports pertaining to the status of products, platforms, and processes.
  • Analyzing and interpreting data to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities.
  • Ability to solve problems, and review, analyze, and evaluate technical processes and procedures.
  • Exposure to both waterfall and agile delivery methodologies.

Visa Sponsorship:
This position is currently not eligible for employment visa sponsorship (e.g., H-1B visa). This includes, for example, situations where a candidate may have temporary work authorization while enrolled in school or upon graduation (e.g., CPT, OPT) but would need H-1B visa sponsorship within a few years of employment in order to maintain employment eligibility.
Location:
