Job Summary:
The Design Engineer is responsible for providing civil/structural engineering and design services to support Engineering, Maintenance, Operations and EHS&S. This work includes, but may not be limited to, engineering and design of pipe supports, foundations, platforms, lifting devices, buildings, roadways, and drainage. The successful candidate will possess proven experience with applicable codes and their respective requirements as they relate to civil/structural systems. Additionally, this position collaborates with other engineers throughout CF Industries to share best practices.
Job Description:
Job Responsibilities:
  • Constructively work within the Engineering Design group which includes approximately 15 direct and contract personnel with expertise in piping / mechanical design and document control.
  • Perform structural analysis for moderate to complex steel and concrete structures and foundations.
  • Prepare design calculations in conformance with engineering principles, industry standards and applicable codes such as ACI, AISC, ASCE and IBC.
  • Perform field surveys, including laser scanning and point cloud registration.
  • Utilize 2D or 3D computer aided design software to create layouts of civil/structural systems, and create detailed fabrication and assembly drawings.
  • Interpret pipe stress and flexibility analysis reports to adequately engineer and design pipe supports and restraints.
  • Provide technical expertise to plant personnel (e.g. designers, maintenance, operations, plant, project and process engineers, etc.) regarding design and fabrication specifications per individual project schedule.
  • Identify and implement improvements to Engineering Design standards.
  • Develop and maintain engineering specifications including, but not limited to, piping supports, platforms, ladders, and fall arrest systems.
  • Participate in Design Reviews, Incident Investigations, and resolution of action items.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering and EHS&S departments to ensure the end users' needs are met and are in compliance with all laws, regulations, and standards related to the Design Engineer's assignments.
  • Act as a corporate resource on ACI, AISC, ASCE, IBC, and other applicable recognized standards for civil/structural design and construction.
  • Be self motivated, able to prioritize tasks based on ever-changing plant needs, a good decision maker, and determined to continually expand knowledge of industry standards and practices for the benefit of oneself and the company.
  • Support the corporate EHS Policy and Programs by incorporating the applicable requirements into engineering programs.
  • Continually evaluate ways to improve site safety.

Position Requirements:
  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university is required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Louisiana is required. Five or more years of hands-on in-plant experience required, whether permanent or periodic temporary assignment.
  • Five or more years of engineering related experience in the oil, gas, or chemical manufacturing industry preferred.
  • RISA software experience required.
  • AutoCAD software experience required.
  • CADWorx software experience required.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) required. Must be able to effectively communicate and interact with personnel of all backgrounds.
  • Strong management skills required, including team leading, decision making, and time management.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, work at heights, and enter confined spaces.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
  • The ability to acquire Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC).
  • The ability to prove drug and alcohol free at random or for cause.
