The Department of Earth Sciences is accepting applications for temporary part-time instructors to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Emergency Management in online (synchronous and asynchronous) and in-person formats in the courses listed below.

Please note: The Earth Sciences department at times needs temporary part-time Instructors to fill in for faculty on sabbaticals or other leaves. The purpose of this posting is to generate a pool of qualified faculty. Applications submitted will be reviewed and qualified candidates for various courses will be contacted for an interview process.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Earth Sciences is accepting applications for temporary part-time instructors to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Emergency Management in both online synchronousand in-person formats. The Earth Sciences department at times needs temporary part-time Instructors to fill in for faculty on sabbaticals or other leaves. The purpose of this posting is to generate a pool of qualified faculty. Applications submitted will be reviewed and qualified candidates for various courses will be contacted for an interview process.
Part-time faculty members shall maintain a prorated number of office hours each week, at a minimum of twenty-five (25) minutes for each workload hour taught, on such days, times and locations as will accommodate the needs of the students.
Some positions require online instruction, and do not require presence on Millersville University's campus. Some positions require in-person instruction on Millersville University's campus. This position is contingent upon sufficient enrollments in assigned classes.

CONTINUING SCHOLARLY GROWTH AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT and SERVICE TO THE UNIVERSITY AND/OR COMMUNITY:

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:
The Masters of Science of Emergency Management and Bachelor of Science in Emergency Management program reside within the Department of Earth Sciences. The Department of Earth Sciences has ten full-time faculty, of which one is a full-time tenure track faculty in emergency management.
Required Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Emergency Management or related discipline.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.
  • Commitment to inclusive teaching practices and working with diverse student populations.
  • Demonstrate willingness to foster EPPIIC core values among students and colleagues to further enhance the national distinction of Millersville's Emergency Management programs (EPPIIC Values at Millersville University | Millersville University.
  • Experience working with the latest technology and online tools.
  • Successful interview.
  • Successful teaching demonstration.
  • Successful completion of three background checks.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Specialty certifications in emergency management.
  • Practical experience in emergency management and disaster preparedness.
  • Certifications in FEMA NIMS (ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 and 800).
  • Experience teaching emergency management in an online environment.
  • Experience in teaching/conducting exercises and training events.
  • Strong all-hazards understanding of emergency management and disaster preparedness.
  • Mentoring experience.

  • Teach courses online at a higher education level using lectures, demonstrations, discussions, using online tools and/or equipment and/or other appropriate tools appropriate modes of education delivery.
  • Ability to record and calculate grades, prepare course outline and syllabus, develop course and lesson plans, engage in the selection of appropriate textbooks and other teaching aids necessary to the delivery of instruction.
  • Use computer for email, obtain information on websites, prepare class documents, grade papers, submit final grades online and other duties related to teaching and advising students and serving the department, college, university and community.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risks.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
