CU is an Equal Opportunity Employer and complies with all applicable federal, state, and local laws governing nondiscrimination in employment. We are committed to creating a workplace where all individuals are treated with respect and dignity, and we encourage individuals from all backgrounds to apply, including protected veterans and individuals with disabilities.
Who We Are
The College of Arts and Sciences at CU Boulder is the intellectual core of the university, conducting research, scholarship, creative work, and education in more than 60 fields. Our research generates new knowledge, solving some of the world's most critical problems.
Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (MCDB) concentrates on how living systems operate at the cellular and molecular levels, their assembly and structure, emphasizing cellular and genetic regulation, including embryonic development. The college leads nationally in undergraduate and graduate education in the natural sciences, social sciences, and arts and humanities, bringing extraordinary research and scholarship to our students, both in and out of the classroom.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Peptide Synthesis & Analytical Chemistry:
  • Execute solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS) for a diverse portfolio of research projects.
  • Operate and maintain high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) systems for purification and quality control.
  • Perform routine mass spectrometry (MS) characterization to ensure identity, purity, and modification accuracy of all synthesized batches.
  • Optimize synthetic protocols for challenging sequences, including cyclic peptides and non-canonical amino acid incorporation.

Structural Biology & Cryo-EM Integration:
  • Bridge the gap between peptide chemistry and structural biology by preparing samples for high-resolution cryo-EM analysis.
  • Apply expertise in grid preparation (e.g., vitrification, glow discharge) to ensure optimal sample distribution and structural integrity.
  • Collaborate with the broader structural biology team to perform ligand-binding assays and resolve complex structures.
  • Troubleshoot structural workflows, including buffer optimization and sample screening.

What We Can Offer
The hourly rate for this temporary, full-time position is $25.00.
Benefits
Temporary positions at the University of Colorado are not benefits-eligible, however, all positions are eligible for paid sick leave .
Be Statements
Be ambitious. Be inspired. Be Boulder.
What We Require
Education:
  • PhD in Molecular BIology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Structural Biology, or a related field.

Technical Expertise:
  • Demonstrated proficiency in automated and manual peptide synthesis.
  • Extensive experience with HPLC and MS instrumentation, including data interpretation.
  • Strong background in cryo-EM workflows, specifically sample preparation, freezing techniques, and structural data assessment.

Core Competencies:
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced core facility environment, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining high instrumentation standards.

What We Would Like You to Have
  • Experience with biophysical characterization techniques (e.g., ITC, SPR, or CD spectroscopy).
